edit: errr..not a very good start, can mod move it to main section please..sorry

    Hi Guys
Raf from UK here, newbie to here (can`t belive I never found this place before) but not newbi to toughbooks. Been using an old cf-27 for a few Years until recentaly when I treated myself to a nice mk4 cf-18. Wanting more funtcionality out of it I decided to invest in some oem bits for it, namely edge modem (mc75) and a stock gps unit. And this brings me to my questions.

    Right, first laptop info:

    CF-18 MK4 s/n : CF-18khh68te

I`ve been speaking to the guy here in UK who sells bits for toughbooks and he claims that I can fit my:

    gps board (DL3UP1281GBA)
    mc75 (DL3UPB237HAA)
bluetooth board (was already in the toughbook)

at the same time. Going by his advice I bough the gps and the modem and now I`m struggling to find the way to fit all these bits. My main problem is just one ribbon connector on the main PCB and than lack of space.
Can this be done and if so can somone please tell me the right order in which I should fit the boards.

And a side question - what is the best place for getting an mc75 front panel??

Thanks for all the help guys

    Raf

I`m ringing the guy I bough the bits from on monday - he said he will guide me through the process. I`m still happy with him thou as I also managed to bag a cf-web182 vehicle mount from him..

Welcome to the forums. Someone should be able to help you with your questions. *presses play on the cheesy fall asleep on the phone music* I was just that way(RAF Mildenhall and Lakenheath) in July for a few weeks. Lovely weather, or from what I was told I got there during the heat flash with 89 degree sunny days.

You may get more answers if you post the thread with "need CF 18 help" or something like that. Just an idea that might help you get your questions answered.

I would post a want to buy ad in the buy sell trade forum for the mc75 panel. Fleabay is the other place I would look.

You can ask for schematics or service manuals here(try a new thread)

I found this page on installing oem gps into a CF 18

Guide: Installing OEM GPS Kit in Panasnic CF-18 | Toughbook Central

I also found this thread that implies the Bluetooth connects to the GPS.

    Thanks guys
I have seen the GPS install and used it initally. Main problem for me is that both gps and edge modem seems to in the same place and I can`t get them in together.

Bloetooth coneected to GPS - that would make some sense, just need to figure out how.

Ringing the guy on tommrow afternoon, will see what he says.

    Thanks
    Raf

I have read here that on a CF29 the modems / sleds with gps are different than the ones without gps. That may be an issue on your CF 18.

Can you please post the picture of the daughterboard. The complete daughter board has a provision for WWAN modem, GPS and a bluetooth with metal bracket for gps module and bluetooth module. I can't find the thread on which I discussed where the module goes to its coresponding connector underneath the daughterboard.

    Hi Guys
Thanks for all the help - I just managed to do it. Must have had a "blonde moment" before as today, just after looking at it I managed to fit it all to one doughter board. And than I`ve seen Ohlips post - thanks.

Anyway, just hit another issue. There seems to be a port conflict between something I installed and a pointing device (my pointer is just being crazy on the screen). I can swear I read about this at some point earlier but can`t find the relevan post now.
    Anyone??

    Thanks very much
    Raf

Great, thanks very much. GPS and Edge Modem now are working perfectly. Only problem I`m having now is bluetooth. For some reason toughbook does not detect the bluetooth board. Checked the connection etc, all seems fine. It`s not an essential thing for me anway so I`m in no rush.

Thanks very much for all the help guys, great place, I think I will hang around here.
