Hey Guys - I had my 28 apart the other day (Exploring) and when I had her back together the lid sensor does nor work - It does not know when the lid is closed - I tried looking through the tech manual but still not sure what it uses to know when the lid is closed. I an guessing I moved or unplugged something but just not sure where to look, I did have the serial ports out - don't ask. not sure if that is what did it. I thought I put everything back in its place but you know how that goes -

Appreciate your help and keep up the great work - Side note - stay away from absurplus212 on ebay - just got my last 28 from them and it was trashed - not anyway near close to the described condition and seller was uninterested in my dissatisfaction. I had bought from this guy before with success but not this time - Later Clint - thanks again.

What do you mean that it does not know when the lid is closed;you mean to say that the display still on even the lid panel is already closed or down? If it will be the case you maybe accidentally remove the small magnet inside the screen panel, try to open and look at it it is near the hinges if i am not mistaken at the right side of it.

That magnet is the one who is resposible to open up and closed the switch of the lcd display. The switch is located at the buttom side of the unit not on the panel but on the mbo. opposite side of that magnet location. Try to check that also maybe you also disconnect that one, either of that two.

A-ha! When I took my first 28 apart many months ago, I took it COMPLETELY apart and found what looked like a reed switch:

Makes plenty of sense now, if there's a magnet in the lid. reed switches switch in the presence of a magnet!

Since the OP mentioned taking the serial port board out, I'm betting on him not reattaching the little reed switch.

Gravitar... Sounds like it's the problem! I doubt the magnet would fall out... They are glued in there pretty well.
