Ok so i installed a screen protector from a cf-18 to my new CF-19 since it did not have one when i got it.

It was the hardest thing i probably have ever done. I could not get the thing on without dust etc getting under it. Finally i tried doing it in a steamy room as per someone suggestion and it was much better but i still had to use scotch tape to get any dust left behind and then get all the bubbles out.

I need to get a new protector since this one is just too scratched for me. '

I would like to hear from other members that have put on a screen protector.

    How did you do it?

Are there any tips or tricks you know about?

    James,
I know that the vinyl sign installer guys use a mild solution of dish soap and water to keep bubbles out from under the film. They wet the surface, place the film, and push the liquid out with a soft squeegee. It seems counterintuitive, but the adhesive holds fine and you get no bubbles. I know TB had a post quite a while ago about how he did it. I'm about to do my new CF-29 I think, did you do any damage removing the protector? Like to the anti-glare coating?

No the screen protector seems to be in the same condition it was before. The only thing is i have just a couple pieces of dust under it and the corner that i had to use to take it off and on a bunch of times does not want to really stay on.

Cap's right... I used a solution of 99.99% watter with a few drops of soap. You need to use lint free microfiber and you still will probably get 1-2 pieces of lint under there. Using water with a little soap helps squeegee the water our along with the dust.

I buy from ScreenPatronous on ebay... They have the closest to the original without paying $75 for it.

To give you a tip a better place to install a protector at your home with free dust and other particles is at your shower room. Thats the only realiable place as far as I know. First open the shower with a bet hot until steam builtup, I say a couple of minute. But of course don't make your project be wet on the process. Toughbook on the shower, eh!

Oh! really, did you clean it up the unit and yourself before entering the room coz your shirt/ cloth probably have dust or maybe the unit itself. I installed 4 unit with this kind of process and I succeded so far without dust or any. Just be carefull. I installed the protector after showering, no nothing (bold/nude) all the way. :D

No I did it naked lol

I took a long hot shower and got the room real steamy then got out and did the protector. I figured by moving around and putting clothes on i would mix up dust :)

This protector got done in the NUDE lol

Guess i just have a dusty house which does not surprise me.

Ya it catches the dust and drops it to the ground supposedly.

It seems to be much better than just doing it in a normal room. It helped a lot when i did it in the steamy room.

Hmmmm... This better stay here on the forum. If this gets out on ebay it may kill Toughbooks sales.

    *****Ebay Announcement*****

It has come to our attention that people have been stripping naked with their laptops in the shower. In an effort to curb this filthy habit, eBay is immediately suspending Toughbook sales until further notice!

    :D :D :D  ;)

    James,
I suggested soapy water for the screen not the installer! I want to go on record as not having suggested any of this unseemly behavior between naked adults and their computers. Sheep and chickens will probably be in the picture next if this doesn't stop.
