The screen brightness is definitely not what it used to be. It is a MK3 with touch. What parts are involved in correcting this? I use this unit in my auto shop for quick reference to manuals, parts etc. It's pretty bright in the shop so it's very noticeable now. I had a parts list for my model but can't seem to locate it....

Do you want to change to ccfl tubes or the entire lcd panel?
-
-
same nits--yes
Easiest/fastest is to replace the entire panel.

Conversion to led strips is possible, but that requires time/skill.
Sheepman might have a low hours panel -
If you are in the US for that money I would buy a stripped Mk4. Led screen and i5

i5 CF 30---huh?
U B thinking CF 19 maybe? -
Duh, lost my mind there.

I ordered the item you suggested this morning. Didn't we used to have a link on with the service manual? The only time I have had to open one of these up is to replace the WLAN card.
-
It's easy, are you replacing the entire top half or the LCD itself?
-
Just the LCD.

Simple, pull battery, remove the keyboard filler plate to get to the hinge covers. I find it easier to remove the antennas from the lid rather then trying to route them into the base so pull the plastic antenna covers on the front of the lid and unscrew the antennas.
With the lid screws out pull the rubber antenna covers and see how the antennas are routed.
Remove the lid, there are some plastic corner pieces that locate the LCD. Pull the touch ribbon, unhook the lcd cable and lift the lcd out.
Just take your time routing the antennas back on the lid, a little tape is a big help keeping things in place. Watch the antennas around the hinges, easy to damage them.
Unfortunately my 30's are in a container on the way to me so no photos. -
