I had no idea... I just started ripping them off to see the beautiful screen beneath it...

Looks like these are ALL user replaceable (On my CF-30 too). I called heartland and it appears that they are $48.64/each... FORGET IT! lol

I'm wondering if these screen protectors are getting in the way of the correct operation of the touchscreen in regards to the calibration.

    Thoughts? Comments?

The factory-installed screen protectors on most (if not all) Panasonic Toughbook models are replaceable. Keep in mind however that if you peel them off too quickly you can actual damage the display and also that you should place a new scratch guard on in a "clean room" as they attract dust like crazy when you try to put them back on.

You just made this discovery? Did you also know the screen swivels?

Funny tough-2-go, real funny! No, I just figured if it ain't broke don't fix it that's all! I just noticed that a couple of them were pealing off so I just took them off.

TB exchange, yes I know... when I say "rip them off" i really mean peal them off very gently.

Screenpatronous on eBay sells the best aftermarket ones that I have seen at the best price... And I have tried (starting back in the CF-28 days) pretty much every type of maker/manufacturer/seller around. ScreenPatronous is your best bet unless you want to cough up the duckets for a REAL Panasonic one. Panny's is, of course, the best... It is a little thicker. I doubt VERY seriously if they would cause ANY issue with screen calibration as they are so thin.

As T/E pointed out... You REALLY need to be VERY careful when removing. I use a dyed-in-the-wool dental pick (Factory fresh from my last visit to the dentist... Yes... I have a very cool dental hygienist!) and I CAREFULLY lift the edge (I have also used a wooden toothpick) but the aim here is to NOT scratch the screen when removing. When the edge is lifted... I usually go from upper right corner to lower left corner removing on the diagonal slowly to the lower left corner. The ONLY time I got the old "Holographic Effect" damage to the LCD was when I started fast, stopped because the shop phone rang and then started again. It disappears when the screen is on but looks like crap when the laptop is off.

As far as a clean room.... I haven't hit the Powerball yet so I do NOT have the clean room like on the original "Andromeda Strain" movie (Great movie BTW) going down 6 consecutive levels until you are sure all dust and skin cells are removed... As well as leg hair and well.. You know.

I wish I remembered whom to give props to... But they suggested bringing your new screen protector, a can of compressed air and a lint-free towel into a steamy bathroom. Leave the faucets and shower on HOT and let them run for 10 minutes.... Make sure you don't have the fan blowing gnats or anything else on to perturb the air... Except for your quick airblasts to knock away the screen detritus and dust. I would clean between the screen bezel and the screen protector BEFORE you remove it.... Then go into the steamy shower, remove and reapply.

You just have to see the simplicity of it all... The steam knocks the dust out of the air... While this may F-up a Dull.... A Toughbook will shrug off the moisture.

Now I need to find the guy's directions as they were pretty good. If anyone who reads this wrote that thread, speak up for props... Or if you know where it is... Please post a link. But this pretty much sums up, along with your walking-around IQ to fill it all in, is how to do it. A great idea actually when you need to knock dust out of a room....

I'll bet you never thought of your bathroom as THAT sort of "Clean Room"... eh?

Of course... Teo... It makes me wonder though.... How many of us shower with our Toughbooks.... Ya know.... The grime has to come off SOMETIME! ;)

(Well... For some of us anyway...)
