For Christmas I got a CF-19 Mk1 for my girlfriend for her a spare/travel computer. She loves it. He oldest son is Autistic and had been borrowing it to play on every day. He usually does very good and doesn't mess with anything. She wasn't in the room at the time so she doesn't know for sure how he tripped but he wound up dropping her CF-19 and busting the screen. For right now I have two spare CF-19's and just going to swap her battery and harddrive over while I see what I need to fix this one.

Will a screen off of a CF-18 work or will it be CF-19 only item?

I will be fixing up him his on CF-18 so maybe he will leave his mothers computer alone as her dell laptop has developed problems and she has had to depend on the toughbook more for her school work.

I think Theo had created an CF-18 with cf-19 screen, so it should be exchangeable...

I got a CF-19 Mk1 with broken screen and replaced the screen with one out of a CF-18 Mk2.
It works, but maybe it is a bit darker.

Yes it was Teo but he used the whole top from a 18. But its not that easy...rewiring and changing a few things.
I bought one of these half breeds on ebay by mistake...knew some was missing...the speaker  ...that was when I realized it was a 18 top. The guy tried to rewire the video line to get it working but messed it up so now it needs a new one. I have so many things on the go never got around to working on it so it just might end up on ebay

Ok. I still have about 5 to 6 CF-18's I haven't put together yet so it looks like I will be stripping one out for parts and selling off the rest cheap. I was running out of batteries and caddy's anyways, lol. Just got the storage cabinet I wanted. Had a long drive to get it but all real wood, no particle board crap. I three more big boxes to go through and about 10 more computers to get rid of.

I can confirmed that the cf-18 LCD is compatible with cf-19 but make sure it does come from atleast on CF-18MK4 or MK5 to give you the same brightness. Don't use on the MK1 coz it give a rainbow effect on the ts glass.

Same also with digitizer unit. The digitizer panel aso the same It means that you don't need to transfer the digitizer panel from cf-19.

    Good luck

Hopefully the good thicker particle board that has some weight to it, most places around here have went with that thin light weight stuff most of the time it won't make it the ride home in one piece.

Well, commonly available there's LDF, MDF, HDF and Masonite; all of which have their strengths and weaknesses. There ARE Waterproof versions as well; just not commonly used in furniture as the chemicals can be toxic and stain.

MDF is the material of choice for building speaker enclosures due to it's high rigidity-to-weight ratio and excellent resistance to harmonic resonance; of course, once you get a good design, you can always make it out of hardwood but the cure time for the wood is a real pain in the tuchus. There's a reason those speakers cost a fortune, and the improvement over MDF is still 95% aesthetic, 5% sound quality.

Yes, I've burned up a router or three and more than a couple table saws making speaker enclosures for pretty much anything you can imagine. ;)

I love the smell of MDF dust in the morning; smells like... THUMP!

I got it taken apart and swapped the screen from CF-18FHAZBBM into the CF-19 Mk1. The screen seems about the same, but the screen may of been getting a little dim on the 19. Haven't had a new one to compare. Anyways she is back up and running again. I have stripped more stuff off that cf-18 to fix another CF-19 I got that was missing doors, port covers, screws and plastic around the screen.

On swapping the screen it went very smoothly, I was thinking it was going to be a nightmare. I think I had the screen swapped in 10 minutes.

So here is what I'm thinking next. I would like to replace my CF-18 MK4 LID with CF-19 MK1 LID. I would like to have the speaker front of me. Also, I would like to mod a Mic and Webcam on top of the screen. I know there is some info around here. My research is began... just wanted to bring that up, some of you may want to think about that as well...

Right now I have a CF-19MK1 base but no top. Why I have no top is it's $200.00 + for one...not sure if the 19 lid will work on a 18

Did you or anyone tried before? I'm talking about changing the whole top including the swivel. Remove it from CF-19 MK1 and install it on my CF-18 mk4.

I know Teo has put a 18 on a 19 but he had to do some changes for it to work.

So far I found out that the cf-19 mk1 palm rest is wider (about 3mm more in between the screws) than the cf-18 mk4. It is not worth to do the change over, I'll have to stay with the current top on the cf-18 mk4.

So the next step is to try to mod the cf-19 speaker into the cf-18 screen and run a cable to the bottom speaker location. Also, one more cable for the mic.

Ok, the CF-19 speaker is arrived. Now I'm working on the CF-18 Mk4 Screen, trying to find a way to mount that speaker in so it will be serviceable. Don't want to just glue it. The hard part is to bring a pair of wire to the screen through the swivel. It is too tight already there.

Maybe Ohlip have a way... :)

I will update with pictures soon.

Dremel is your friend my friend. Then position the speaker the way it should be. Also apply a foam sealant before you install. Then a JB weld will do the rest. Since you cutted out the part of its layout of the bezel and lid. you also need to apply a certain amount of jb weld or silicon around 5mm ouside of the spekeaker with height the same to the sealing corner of both lid and bezel. Its some kind of hard to explain. (you know! I'm not really good on english)

Fot the speaker wire. Provide two then wire( an insulated wire ) long enough. then unscrew the base hinges(assuming that you've already crack the case) till it separated. Then just follow the position of the wire on the hinges. Provide a blund tiny tool and push the wire into the plastic coupler/bushing at the top to exit the wire at the other end.

    Good luck.
