When my room is real quiet, i notice a kind of whizzing whine or something. Its faint but it seems to be coming from the lower lcd area near the keyboard basically where the panasonic and cf 30 logo is.

Thats where the duel inverter is located ,it's provides high voltage to run the ccf tubes , the sound is similar ,although reduced to a household florescent light ballast
I am older and most likely have some hearing loss on the high frequency range
I bet that it's not an issue ,you just have better hearing than me

    Is this common?

Is it actually failing, or just the potting in one of the transformers gone dried out and letting the core oscillate? Did Panny actually replace them under warranty when they started to whine, or only once they finally kakked?

This is the beg. stage of failing, panasonic should replace if still under warranty, but if not, your paying for it. you can just call heartland to get the part shipped to you.

There is a comment in regards to this in the FAQ section on there website. It has something to do with the USB settings if I remember correctly.

Does the sound change on your 30 if you either turn the screen brightness up or down, also see if you can tell if the noise changes if it's plugged in or not. Sometimes my MK2 will do it if it's unplugged and the screen is turned way down.

Brightness has no effect, power or battery has no effect. Usb being used or not has no effect either.

That must be a different situation than mine then. Just a few moments ago I had to adjust my brightness because of the little buzzy sound. All of a sudden you notice it and say !
