I want to say Thanks you all for the great help I have had and one by one I am about to get the bus and basic mods for the CF30-FASRXAM m2 with docking station zeroed in.
I got everything working but the sound, but have finally got a w7-32 to auto detect and online update for a simple self diagnostic and quick fixes.
I have been continually checking to keep the trash and old/unused files out of the set up files of taking up space.
The cold boot is quite fast approx 30 sec. the desktop is only showing a few files or programs.
The ram chip is marked 2G but in the device manager and bios shows I have 3G available ram (cant figure that out).
I have a 162G 7200 rpm HDD. with plenty of open space. It has be defragged and cleaned of junk/duplicate files.
I am leaning on the speed reduction is my MS Firewall/Security checker as I navigate online or open and work with programs. the file protection is the what is slowing everything down. (not bad ) but is has the slight pawns the is very flustrating. I am not expecting lightning fast click by click. But I feel it should be faster the at times 20 to 30 sec paws before the program will respond.

I've never loaded a CF-30 with W7 where the sound didn't work with W7 drivers. I always went behind and installed Panny's version but the sound always works. With your speed issues it sounds like you have conflicts somewhere possibly.
What "self diagnostic online fix" are you referring to? -
Shut off the WiFi and/or disconnect the LAN cable. Disable the firewall/security program and see if the unit responds faster. If it does, youare right, the firewall/security program is causing the slow down.
You might also check in the BIOS that the hdd is in AHCI mode and not compatible mode. If it is in compatible mode the hdd is not transferring dat as fast as it can in AHCI mode. Be aware that changing from one mode to another will cause the OS to blue screen. You have to do a reinstall of the OS and programs.
Are you sure there is only one ram stick in the unit? The bottom of the 2 ram sticks has, or should have copper heat spreader tape over it, making it hard to spot. The bottom stick is also covered, or should be, by the retainer for the top stick. You might have a 1GB stick in the bottom slot and a 2GB stick in the top slot.UNCNDL1 likes this. -
I missed that on the RAM.... Yeah... He has two different sticks of RAM... Most likely different manufacturers and obviously different sizes. If their timings are different I would imagine that the mixed RAM could also be contributing to the issue here.
I'd buy 4GB of Crucial and install it.
The bottom stick of RAM will require that you remove two small screws and lift up the plastic separator.UNCNDL1 likes this. -
mklym; I feel you have got a line on the issues here. As well Toughbook; I never looked under the 2G ram chip so I now assume their is a 1G chip under it. I just did not know or see it when I was in there. Still 3G should open pages (even heavy loaded todays online pages. Of course 4G would be better and a 4G ram chip set up is on the Christmas list.
Will look into the Bios setting today. Since I don't have the ability to reload W7, I can;t see me making a change (if needed in a bios setting) and get into any blue screen issues. I cant see the guy that did the upgrading did not know this.
I wish I could tell you where I found the Windows instructions to load a "update and automatic diver search" and automatic driver update drivers or missing programs needed. It did find the last of the drivers need to get my docking station to work. As well as the only error in the in the device manager list. The file was found it reported to me that I need a driver correct it. Basicly this Windows fix (NOT Panasonic) is what has given W7 the ability to in a few clicks find and let window do a automatic fix. All I can see now is a on screen icon that shows a big T, when I open it it is listed a "Driver download manager" Hope this helps. It sure was a savior for me. I was hunt and peck/trial and error to get to what these 2 downloads did in 5 minutes.
Once it was complete installing the problem problem PCI issue I mentioned earlier, I think that was the name of it. The download informed me the hard drive heart was programed. I did not think I had a hard drive heater. But now the yellow triangle is gone.
The "pregnant pause" issues/slow operation could be security check issue. But I will note i have at times still get the windows updates and will stop all the automatically updating today. These are so many and a big waste to receive them all I did stop them and to load only critical downloads. But now I am setting it never down load unless I approve them. So I was geting these crazy downloads interrupting my processor and hard drive. If and when I have noted the pregnant pauses (PP) my hard drive light is lit and unbenounced to me the system is busy doing some unintended processing. -
Automatic driver update programs are often little more than a scam. Many will cause drivers that *were* working to quit working, download wrong drivers, or drivers that "seem" to work. Try a system restore point before that automatic driver downloader was installed, and get the proper drivers from Panasonic. If you run into trouble, ask here at these forums for help finding the appropriate driver. Also install order sometimes matters.

Another thing: if the missing driver was "PCI Data Acquisition" something, then the driver you are looking for is likely to be the ETM driver.

What antivirus/security are you running? MS Essentials?
-
Yes MS Emulator.
The program I used was NOT a malware program. It is a utility program that automatically performs as my desktop computer will do in a repair and diagnostics mode. They was 2 or 3 simple free upgrade to W7 direct from MS I think. Yes I have seen many off breed/malware offers. This was not one of them.
After further investigation I found in my program listing a "Driver Download Manager (DDM)" related to Panasonic Release 1.1 ,
Panasonic Toughbook Computer Support Downloads
This program lead me to the MS drivers that fixed the issues. I used the Down Load Manger, and the All-in-one Drivers, tabs and plus in the left hand tab instaled the "Toughbook Software Development Kit". It loaded directly from either Panisonic or MS I don't remember but it fix the issues. Hope this helps someone anyone as much as it helped me.

I have never heard of MS Emulator. Are you speaking of MS Essentials? Calling things by a different name will only mix things up.
Your laptop still may be messed up as the "download this driver fixer" websites do not always load the correct driver. It may load the driver it thinks it needs. Or it may load drivers out of order... Which can also cause issue some times.
My advice is to read and reread the threads around here about loading drivers and start over from scratch. And then don't use something that loads your drivers automatically. You have to take your time and do it right! -
What is the Device Emulator?
The Device Emulator is a software simulation of a CPU and motherboard, that runs the Windows CE and Windows Mobile operating systems. The emulator is a single Windows .EXE file that contains:
A CPU emulator that executes the ARM instruction set by JIT-compiling to x86
An MMU emulator to support virtual memory and page protection
A motherboard emulator that contains emulated RAM and NOR flash memory
A collection of peripheral devices attached to the motherboard: serial ports, LCD controller, touchscreen, keyboard, interrupt controller, programmable timers, real-time-clock, network cards, audio, etc.
A “DMA” interface which allows a Win32 application running outside the emulator to communicate with a WinCE application running inside the emulator, using a simple socket-like programming model.
The V1 emulator ships as part of Visual Studio 2005, and on Microsoft.com as a free standalone download here.

I am reading through this thread and wondering "what is the original question"? All the above advice is spot on. How is everythng running now?
-
At this time we are not mixing apples with oranges... We are mixing oil and water.
I am not sure about any advice at this point until we get some sort of clarification. Trying to read between the lines is not something I like to do for stuff like this... -
I am still curious as to what program this is.......It sounds like a driver updater all in one "malware" type program.
It is a utility program that automatically performs as my desktop computer will do in a repair and diagnostics mode. They was 2 or 3 simple free upgrade to W7 direct from MS I think. -
NO NO I was wrong I did not mean emulator.I am using Essentials for security.
The Panasonic site i referred to earlier has fix the drivers issues.
The operating speed or lack of it is the only big issue at this time is the question at hand. The speed issue was always on the slow response since the day I unpacked it. Its not like unusable.
Following others advice before I replace the speaker for the no system sounds. I have removed the sound drivers and reinstalled them. Still no sound, so I am now going to check the speaker itself.
Sorry for my typo and auto correct to cause such a mess. I ask for your forgiveness. -
No problem.......... I enjoy searching for answers..sometimes without knowing the question.
A SSD will speed things up a lot.
Then tweak the settings a bit. Tweak them with a rotating drive for that matter.
Ultimate Windows Tweaker, a TweakUI for Windows 7 & Vista
I have noticed the latest releases of Firefox to be slower. I am going to revert to a previous version and check the performance. Losing sound has been discussed in several threads in the past 2 months. Drivers are the usual culprit. I suggest reset the bios to defaults first of all. Then completely removing already installed drivers. Start over on the install after reading the driver installation on Panasonic's web site.

Is it worth checking CPU utilisation/processes/services in Task Manager when it pauses?
An instance of svchost.exe was using 100% of my CPU, made it hang for ages. This was in XP but but I think I've also seen it in Vista & 7.
Even a MS forum says Windows update is to blame, can't remember which.
I know I could have used Svchost Viewer, Process Hacker etc. to track this down - being lazy and dumb I didn't dig that deep, just dumped recent updates with a system restore after scanning with MSE and Malwarebytes.
Runs fine now.
Good luck with yours,
merry Christmas to all. -
Yup... I hate building XP Pro Toughbooks any more. The last time the same thing happened. But that is on XP Pro and not on W7. The key to building XP Pro these days is to download IE8 and install prior to doing updates.
-
I turn auto updates OFF. I manually update before going to bed. Let it download and update all night.
-
Days ago I thought I had turned auto up-dates off, But I did not. What I did was just inform me of updates and I was asked if I wanted to install. Well ok I really did not stop them from downloading just ask me If i wanted to install.
I now have updates stopped completely and only notified of the important files, (but not loading).
Yes I have monitored the CPU activity, it pegs the meter full load when most any activity is started. It is NOT for but a few seconds. Just enough to prolong opening many simple processes.
I am just use to working with a 4 year old desktop that runs like a champ. -
If you're removing the bottom to check the speaker it's important to reshape the heatsink pads, ideally add a smear of Arctic Silver if you have it.
You may even find it helps with your other (speed) issue - I don't think anyone's mentioned temperatures yet? -
Thanks uncle; Yes I have though about the over heating potential. But I have the slow response in the first 2 minuet it operates as 2 hours later.
But it has a potential either way I am sure. Thanks for you your input.
I think I may have found potential speed killer. I started a new post titled wifi 802. connection.
