    Hi,

Somewhat bothered by the USB port on the CF-53, I can see this being the first thing to break. I have my mouse USB receiver in it full time and the latch is 3/4 closed just waiting to catch something and break etc.

Is this the normal setup for it? Been searching for a solution, maybe the smallest possible receiver out there, so far only come up with this but no way to test it. Anyone using something small enough where the latch can close or any other ideas?

I don't think you are going to find anything out there that is small enough for the door to close. I have one now and it is smaller than the one you have posted now and the door still will not close.

I'm thinking the black is nothing more than a handle/grip to pull them out, nothing inside it:

All that is needed is something flush to close the little door. Pulling it out later on with tweezers or something is another story of course. I just folded up a piece of cardboard a couple times and put it in there flat, door closed quite easily which suggests there is room when it closed.

This claims to be the smallest dongle out there, and again the black is the handle. I think you could start grinding it down till it is flush with the port?

Key thing is though, these aren't wireless mice I wonder if their USB has to be bigger? And most importantly will it transmit/receive with the door closed.

I think I will investigate, all I got on hand are old wireless mice with big clunky USB receivers.

It's probably not bluetooth for a wireless mouse.

I was thinking again...about cutting a slot in the door so this mini dongle usb I have would be supported and protected. Then if I sell the CF-53 just sell it as is, without a door or wait for a spare to come available. With the door shut that little unit you have would barely stick out.
It's a good reason to buy some new bits for the Dremel Tool. :D

Have you considered a Bluetooth mouse? I use an optical BT mouse with BT built into my CF-53. Cost $10 and works great even on the curved arm of the recliner.

Damn! Wow! Thanks for doing that. I was looking closer at what I had and was wondering why it appeared to be recessed in the handle rather than just attached. Does it look like there are any actual components in that end? It is just not blank metal to allow the plastic to be formed on to it?

However it appears above in the thread the solution is so simple, blue tooth, man I must be getting old, completely keep forgetting about that tech. No dongles required. Recharge via USB. Just worry about the life of it, don't think I change the batteries of the USB mouse in a year at a time.

Totally forgot about Blue Tooth. Thanks for the reminder! Ha, there is the solution right there, dongle-less mouse. How is the juice time on it though? Don't think I change the batteries in the USB mouse I use in a year. At least with the blue tooth you can charge it via the USB. But how long does the juice last for you before a recharge is required?

Will pick one up ASAP if I can find one suitable in feel to what I use now which my hand has been moulded to for the past 4 years. Very particular with my mouse I have to say and have to find a store that demo's them before buying.

yeah ... i was going to post "don't do it !!!!" when i first read about "sawing it off" . :err:
    looks like i don't have to ...

the bluetooth mouse is a good fix for this little irksome problem .
my friend uses a BT mouse and swears by it (as opposed to at it) .

cutting the back cover is always an option ... but ... there will be a small piece sticking out just waiting to snag or hit *something* .
have you ever met mr. murphy ?
he is quite well known by those in many fields and endeavors .

    hmmmm ...

i got to lookin' and thinkin' ...
(always a dangerous thing especially when followed by "hold my soda and watch this")
how about attacking the problem from the other end ... saw a chunk off of the connector .
i don't believe that the components extend down into the connector proper .

That was the original idea, but for a handful of dollars and new mouse, why bother.

Bought this yesterday Amazon.com: Logitech Bluetooth Mouse M557 for PC, Mac and Windows 8 Tablets (910-0 03971): Computers & Accessories install and operation is totally seamless, zero difference between the connection. Personally do not like the actual mouse itself and will swap it out for something I am more used to. Other thing is hunted around for Bluetooth in the machine no where to be found except in the Wireless Switch Utility in the task bar. Just enable bluetooth, and finds the mouse instantly.

The connector is designed so the + and - connect first to lose static electricity in the device (to ground) before the important connectors connect. Hence the far left and far right are longer. Or something like that. :) I read it in a wiki or somewhere.

i have a couple of logitech wired mice that i really like ... most of their other stuff i do not care for .
i feel that occasionally they build something right .

i have received those super fancy keyboards for birthday and christmas presents .
they wound up like those bad ties and aftershave i bought my dad when i was a kid ... relegated to the back of a shelf in a closet .

No kidding. So far strike 2. Limited options in the Bluetooth dept. For some bizarre reason most current ones are weirdly "flat" totally not workable for a Toughbook on the go need a normal bulb like mouse. I can see these flat ones working on a desk where you may be lower than your arm/hand. Gone from Logitech to Microsoft who screwed it up, right bulb like feel but to long with a stupid extra button on the side.

    https://www.google.com/search?q=mic...iFYb2UIe1hAg&ved=0CAkQ_AUoAg&biw=1280&bih=590

Trick is to find the brand then go to the manufacturer's site and see what else they offer, this looks like the closest that I need:

the second one, like a normal bulbous mouse !

Wireless mouse, Bluetooth mouse, wireless input devices | SMK-Link

Now to find a store with it unpacked as a demo to try and not clam-shelled sealed where you have to buy it try it the return it if no good.

Maybe that hack saw in the corner over there isn't such a bad idea after all lol.

as far as i know and can figure out , those "flat" mice seem to have been originally designed by those wonderful chaps employed by steve jobs .
at least this is where i first seen them being used .
as i recall there was one "low profile" mouse design that required one to rock the mouse to the right or left in order to "click" .

and yes , there are many designs of mice that are too complicated ... all kinds of buttons integrated into the design of the shell/body .
