How disengeneous of you. :rolleyes2:
However, I guess you got the message "sgttoughbook" wanted you to get.
QED -
THE point is no one cares about YOUR needs, very few pick a computer based on the presumed needs of others. Your viewpoint is very self-oriented, for instance where you are gibbering about some foolish game, what is it, "DiRT 2," never heard of it, yet believe others have a "childish mentality."
OK, you have come here and told adults about your dream toy, now go run along back to your "LAN Party" and play your dirt game. -
"A $5000 notebook better rule. It better make your breakfast too."
True, but I think it might warm my scone in the morning...
I'm pretty sure that the CF-31 will play DIRT2, and Left for Dead 2, and the like..
It really is too bad that I could get a decent used motorcycle for the same price... I miss my wheels...... -
A Toughbook lanparty eh??
Would probably go something like this:
Everybody shows up with their toughbooks, play and older game, maybe quake, or unreal tournament 2, some minesweeper..
Maybe shoot a few guns, measure the size of our "tackle", whistle at some women.
Then some tool waltzes in with an ENVY or an Alienware, wearing a TWILIGHT t-shirt.
Loads up a game, I dunno... Maybe DIRT, or CALL of DUTY...
When the toughbook owners can't run the games, the new guy starts laughing and bad-mouthing the other gamers..
Shortly after, the toughbook owners are outside drinking beer and using a garden hose to rinse the blood off their toughbooks.... -
But seriously....
All these posts because someone took a DEAD AND WORTHLESS laptop and destroyed it??
For those who didn't like it or don't "get it", TROLL somewhere else.... -

So, Mr. "WingNut" (or as you call yourself in your Profile, "Mr. Mom"), do you believe the "Forum Rules" do not apply to your conduct here?
Finally; the question is rhetorical, so there's no reply necessary.
Absolutely Q.E.D. -
I just can't keep quiet any longer. Since when does the ability to play the latest and greatest game or program determine the value of a computer? MICROSOFT has sold us on that fallacy. If I don't have win 7 or Vista or whatever, my computer is useless. What a load of crap. If it meets MY needs then it is perfect for ME. I don't care if you still use win 3.11 on a 80286. If it works for you then groovy. This thread is a giant ****ing contest.
You can do whatever you want to YOUR equipment. I understand the stress relief concept. You can buy a brand new laptop and destroy it anyway you want. It's your ball and your backyard so you can make the rules. Today I probably won't be impressed, but I remember a time when I used to do the same sort of things.
They sell a lot of different brands of computers, because we all have different needs. It doesn't mean mine is better or worse than yours, just different. I have a CF 50 which some here probably don't consider a real Toughbook. That's their issue not mine. They didn't buy it and they don't use it. I don't feel the need to inflate my self worth with mine is bigger, better than yours. If someone doesn't like me because of what I OWN, then I really don't care to be around them anyway.
Now play nice before I have to separate you boys!

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!! Nicely done!!!

So, I was curious about the Dirt 2 game requirements. I went to the official web site and had a look see. Ugh...I guess I am old. Flash, flash, and more flash, but I could not find real content, like what are the requirements. I can find them on 3rd party web sites, but not the official site. It could be me, I got tired after the 4th menu layer of flash saying PUSH IT. After 15 minutes of looking I finally decided to PUSH IT. IT being the close browser window button.
I know this will stir things up, but I think games should stay on PSwhatevers and Xbox thingy's. I can't tell you how many PC's I have worked on that were trashed software wise due to poorly written games.
Maybe I should try selling the emperor new clothes. It seems to work for the gaming companies. -
Aye...
It's the gaming community that pushes new PC technology for the most part.
Seriously, do you need a i7 core to run office? Or go online??
Nope....
But it helps out when you are running 4+ 1GB vid cards, a 1200WATT Power supply, 24GBs of RAM, and 3x 24" LCDs so you can play games... -
-
Maybe we should get everyone riled up about THIS Thread...

Although I have had my coffee, and do have SOME time to kill, I don't have THAT much time..

Gamers push development, eh?
WRONG. They're for the most part just tools with money to waste and no life, so also lots of time to waste.
The REAL power in a single box out there is STILL used by people with "Workstations"... video rendering, CAD/CAMM, R&D.
I know... I work on 'em for a living. I just finished a RAM replacement on a 2-year old machine with 64 TB in RAID 5, 48GB RAM and 8 quad-core AMD processors.
What did your hottest gamer have to play with 2 years ago?
I love to hear these punks talk about splatter & gibbage... morons & infants, the lot of them.
When you've slaughtered a few animals for your dinner... when you've been soaked up to your elbows in someone else's blood... when you've had to scoop brain matter up into a baggie on an MVA... the notions of blood & guts & glory take on a much more intimate meaning, and if you have any soul left whatsoever, you cannot remain unchanged by the experience. You MUST be humbled at the intricacy and fragility of that simple thing we call life.
Gamers. Feh. I HAVE a life. Lame as it is, it STILL beats m@sturbating on a non-existent battlefield; and no matter how many kills you've had in there, I still got you beat.

BZZZZZZT. WRONG ANSWER. -
Okay... I think just about everyone has had their say on both sides.
Are Toughbooks the fastest laptop? No!
Can they endure the most punishing elements and abuse (intentional or otherwise) over just about ANY brand laptops, Yes!
Are other laptops faster and "cooler" looking? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Otherwise the Kardashian's show would never have happened. Would I own one? NO! Would I like to play with one? Maybe for the day! (In a full-body "wetsuit" of course!)
Toughbook owners gravitate towards Toughbooks for one of two (or more) reasons....
1. They can absorb more damage or prevent damage and such a laptop is needed for their job or hobby.
2. Bragging rights and the coolness factor. they don't need a speedy AIienware Or Dull laptop to play Internet dweeb games.
As I said.... To each, his own.
No more need for inflammitory posts...
Thread closed.... EOS
BTW.... Being the graceful dumb human that I am... I may be posting a little less for the next few weeks.
A. I am going to be in and out for A LOT of errands and a mini vacation, and;
B. I had to replace a blown main pump on my hot tub and after the 1000 screws I had to remove and replace... When it got to the LAST trim piece... ended up running the power screwdriver through my left index finger. This of course happens when the In-Laws are here and other family members who were coming into BWI and I needed to pick up in 2 hours.... So I drove to my local GP for stitches... So I am a little limited on typing ability. (More than regularly anyway! HA!)
So... Let's all take a step back, sip a jack or pop a pill and get along...
