    Hello all,

I just got done doing a dvd rw swap on my cf 29. I used the dvd rw out of my 2 year old Dell, which is ruined, and the install went great, using the tutorial that Toughbook posted.

Here is my only problem- I went to test out my newly installed DVD player, and I got a Windows Media Player pop up that stated I do not have a compatible DVD decoder installed on my computer.

Apparently, a decoder has to be purchased?

What I do have is my old hard drive from my ruined laptop, and it is inside an enclosure, and I can use it as an external hard drive. Can I use the program files for Roxio, which this DVD player used to watch and burn dvds when it was still installed in my previous laptop? If so, how do I go about making them function on my Toughbook?

Thanks in advance to anybody who can provide a bit of assistance.

    Scott

You can just download a dvd decoding program from the net like power dvd or win dvd. There are also a few freeware programs out there that will work.

You might have a hard time getting it off the old HDD. I would just recommended downloading an app of the net it will be much easier.

Hey I had this same issue last week on refurbished dell laptop lol! I was going nuts trying different things till I realized I had the CDs from my old dell laptop (5 years old). I used that CD and it worked fine, program is 5 years old but works lol..at least on XP.

Anyways, if you have a "2 year old dell" chances are it came with CDs containing the pre-installed software, see if you can find them...

The freeware programs work too (VLC), but I for one did not like them...

    I agree with namaiki
    Try Media Player Classic

Woober... When you say that you did the mod... Did you solder R2 on the PC Board? Also... Did you notice what brand of DVD you put in? Just curious...

I did indeed solder the r2 on the circuit board as you instructed- I used a thin piece of copper wire, and some solder, and made sure not to go outside the box.

The dvd rw I used is a Sony QW58a.

Does media player classic allow you to burn dvds, or is it simply for playing dvds?

Just playing as far as I know. If you need something to burn DVD's, you could look into CDBurnerXP: http://www.cdburnerxp.se/features.php

I haven't used it personally as I have Nero, but it seems to get good reviews for a free program.
