On the right there's a port and I'm not quite sure what it's for. I don't think it's a standard CF-18 port, take a look at the first and last pictures of this page. There are two boarded out bits but on mine there is a 2.5mm plug. Here are some pictures.
It seems to be a headphone/microphone port in one. Would something like this work with it?

The port is for a headset/mic combo used to make telephone calls over the wwan network ,that is if you have subscribed.
I used a headset with my cf29 when I had the telus data plan that I paid $100 per month for a few years ago

What's that, one of those micro phono plugs like the Nokia cell phones used to use for a wired headset?

Sorry, I can't hear you... too many years listening to Megadeth through headphones with built-in subwoofers... -
Yes the same headset is used
On your data plan you have a telephone number and if the Toughbook is up and running you can receive phone calls on that number, just like you cell phone
There is a section for voice in part of the connection software
You choose to connect to data or to voice
Imagine that . A 8lb Toughbook Cell phone

Heh...
My first was a MoldyRolla bagphone (I was living fulltime in a motorhome) with built-in battery; I was way too far away from civilization on the homestead for handhelds to work. When I was at home, I plugged in a 6dB marine cell antenna mounted on the end of 20 feet of 2" PVC pipe; it was just enough to keep 4-5 bars in my driveway.
mnem<~~~Still has one of those old cancer-block 3W brick phones in storage somewhere~~~* -
It's a shame we can't still use the old brick/bag phones with the 3 watts. I had one with Alltel until they quit with the analog system. It would still work where today's little POS's fear to tread.
Strange port on my CF-18
