    Hallo everybody.
Today I try to help a friend to install internal module GPS to his CF18 Mk5.
I installed It, but when we check the connection with Vinfast, the signal was weak. I think, I was waiting enough time for good connection. Than I decided to compare the GPS function with my CF18 Mk2. The GPS module is the same, from Panasonic, not aftermarket. With my laptop, connection was excellent. Over 5 satellites in green. With Mk5 they was 3-4 very weak. The data flow was also less than with my Mk2.
But this is not all. During my work I noticed also, that Wlan connection of my Mk2 is twice better than this Mk5.
And, when I start or shut down the laptops Mk2 is faster than Mk5.
Very strange, because my is 1.1Ghz and 760 Ram, but Mk2 is 1.2 with 1500 Ram and should fly.
The problem is with and without GPS connected. And my question is not are this GPS good or not, but why the probably better laptop is slower and with bad connections? What do You think? Is this software problem - bad Widows??, or some hardware problem - bad memory stick?? or anything else...

I would start with the Windoz maybe the disk on the MK5 needs to be defragmented. Could also be that the MK5 has a slower disk then the MK2. For the GPS maybe the antenna's are not correctly connected to the hub thats inside the unit. Try to reinstall Windoz and update the drivers on the MK5 and see if that makes a difference.

    Thanks.
Yes, I also was thinking about Hards. My is 60Gb, and Mk5 is different - 40Gb.
Also Windows are different. Mk5 is some Russian-language version. :D But may this influences to the connections quality?
And, may EVEREST help me to discover such problem?

Yes you can see what type of HD each machine has and then google for the
rpm and cache sizes. There are also some benchmarking tools in the newer
ver. of Everest maybe try that. If all is correct with both units the MK5 is going to be faster. I think its your HD in the MK5 if its a 40gb it could be an old
4200rpm or its just on it's last life.

Yes, now with new Windows the laptop is faster.
But, with Wlan situation is the same, and GPS stop to work at all. Not at all  , there is a data flow, but very short lines of numbers, and doesn't discover any satellites. Before did, few and weak, but did
With USB-mouse GPS things are very good, or excellent.

Check the GPS antenna wire, look closely where it is soldered to the parch antenna. Also check the other end connector to the GPS module for corrosion, snap it on and rotate slightly a few times to clean the contacts.

If you do have an OEM GPS module on the system without a battery cmos back up, Don't ever ever pull out the main battery or otherwise you will start from scratch again or to factory default or cold start.

Let it sit outside for atleast 30 minutes and above untill its recover and save the data on sram till then you will start and ahve a quick acquisition but again don't let the main battery drained completely.

    Hm, Thanks!
    About this, the last :)
By some reason, the laptop refused to start after I connected again the OEM GPS. Then I disconnected(pull) and connected again the main battery. And Laptop starts. I don't know is there any CMOS batt. on this laptop, or what is it condition.
But from other side, first time when I connected the GPS before a week, with the old Windows, data flow started immediately and satellites did appear just in seconds.
And I thought about corrosion too, and did few times what You say.
Also, what do You mean with "parch antenna"? This antena which is in the black box on the side of laptop?

Yes, that's the antenna in the black box on the side. Sorry about the typo, should be "patch" antenna.
