I had to reload my CF-29 due to a licensing issue. I was using my desktop lic and I had to hunt down an OEM CD to install XP Pro sp2 from... that required alot of beg/borrow from friends.
But, in the end 100% legit install!!!
I booted of a USB DVD drive and just finished applying SP3 and getting IE8 back on it.
Next up, Norton 2010 and then the rest of the tools. I won't websurf w/o a decent firewall and AV installed. (pick your poison)
Mine is actually a 1.6GHz MK4, not a MK5 as I had thought.
(going to pick up a new 1GB PC5300 SODIMM here this morning, as the 512 I have is not enough for work)
I did get all the drivers loaded off a USB stick that I could find. One device is still "unknown". LAN/WAN/MODEM/VIDEO/Audio... everything I could think of is configured.
Anyone know???

Hotkeys...can you dim the screen, and check battery status from the Function keys

Bingo!!!
Now everything is good to go. I am finishing up the battery recalibration with my existing battery while I wait for the "new" one to show up some time next week. -
One last update...
I swapped out the pitiful CD rom drive for a Panasonic 850 DVD drive reader/writer. Didn't have to do any soldering as it came preconfigured with the right settings for the Toughbook mediaport.
Got it "new-old stock" for dirt cheap.
Also, after exercising the battery a bit, I get about a solid hour of run time. Maybe 70min.
Enough to be dangerous. -
Now you need to give Google Chrome a try instead of IE8....mucho better in many aspects.

Check the bios screen F2 while booting and see if a cd drive is listed as secondary master
When a swap out cd rom drives for the 850 dvd rw I have had to solder mod
Alex -
Ahhh... well, I was able to use the DVD without the solder hack, but, I could not boot from it.
So, I took a length of the insides of a speaker wire and soldered it across the solder points. Trimmed the excess with a nail clipper and then swabbed on a bit of JB Weld to seal it.
I can see it in the BIOS now just fine and Windows detects my Panasonic 850 just fine. (new-old stock drive still in shrink wrap)
Anyhow, everything is back in its place.
Lastly, after recalibrating my battery pack, I get OVER 2 hours of run time... I guess it just needed to be "freshened" a bit to bring it back to life.
Getting used to the touch screen as well... something new to play with. -
