I just bought a CF-28 w/o wireless card. I have one for parts and was needing to know how to change the wireless card. Can anyone give me advise?

Hi CF28 User. I've just been surfing around for information regarding the Wireless card installation for that model and was unable to locate anything useful. Your best bet would be to contact Panasonic Toughbook tech support to see if they can either walk you through installing it or provide you with instructions. The location of such cards can vary widely from manufacturer to manufacturer so its best to consult them directly.

Just make sure that you remove the one screw on the OUTSIDE of the cover before you try to pop the cover off! It's hidden under the flip latch!

I do think using a mini-PCI card is the way to go. I was just curious about his choice of antenna. He answered me by the way, and said his antenna is 6.5" long. sounds like he's using the one from the CF27 like I was thinking about trying! Good to know somebody else already did the testing and had good results!

The 400mw mini pci and side mount will give you the BEST reception... End of story.

Now... If you want to keep the stock look and feel... You can use the Cisco PC Card and RIM type antenna. It will give you reception... But about a 1/4 or 1/3 of what the side mount will do... I've tried ALL the methods... Believe me.

So is there a way to put internal wifi card and internal antenas? I've bought CF28 last week, now i'm upgrading it with large hdd, ram, new cells in battery and wifi. I've got TP-link 108M wn660g card and 2 internal wifi antenas from IBM t40. I've putted it under the plastic covers (where gps should be and on the oposite side).
Is there a chance that it would work as good as in ibm t40?? T40 also has magnesium lcd cover and antenas under it.

Sorry for my bad english :)

I may have missed it...but do you have any pics of your install??
I am thinking of using an old antenna from one of my old Cingular phones.. they are 2.4 Ghz .. and installing it where the stock RIM antenna mounts... ( I don't have the RIM antenna or I would try using that...)

Well...got my Intel Pro/Wireless 2200 Mini PCI 802.11g MiniPCI card... also picked up a cpl of antennas as well.. Tried this one first... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=220161911110&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=012
since it had a longer cable... kinda clipped it to the screen.. worked great.. just have to figger out where and how mount it.. Just for grins.. I put this one on.. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=190165212222&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=009
Now..it is totally enclosed by the hard drive bay...with the hard drive caddy sitting atop it.. battery cover is closed.. and I am getting 4 bars!! dang...think I am gonna like this card..!! Just imagine what it will do with an externally mounted antenna...

Can a Moderator split this into the original Thread and the OT Thread re. batteries?

It is hard to follow and loses the value of the important Wireless discussion.

We also need to preserve the battery rebuilding thread.

    Just a thought ... doc

Let's keep on topic here please. If you have something else to discuss... Please start another thread. It's easier for everyone... Including the person that started the new thread!

    That was my point.

This thread is titled "Swaping wirless cards?" and followed that topic for the first page.

Then it suddenly morphed into a discussion of rebuilding batteries on the second page.

Both are important and valuable topics which need separate threads so the valuable information
    is not lost.

I keep clicking on this thread looking for answers to open questions re. "Swaping wirless cards?"
and find instead a discussion of rebuilding batteries - the wireless stuff got lost. Can this be fixed
or should I start a new "Swaping wirless cards?" thread and cut and paste the orphaned posts into
    the new thread?

Fragmented threads makes finding the good info far more difficult later on.

Just a request for help. No criticism intended. :)

    Thanks! doc

The battery posts have been moved to their own thread. (Pansonic CF-28 Battery Info) Let's try to stay on topic. A certain amount of off topic stuff is of course fine and is expected to some degree. However... When something of an entirely different nature comes up and the questions start flying a new thread should be started.
