The touchpad was upgraded from Synaptics to the Versapad version from CF19 mk6 and CF31 mk2.

Is there any noticeable difference between them in use and function?

I personally prefer a Synaptic.

This Russian CF-31 Mk2 I just got has Versapad and I don't like it much so far. Slide a finger and the cursor kind of 'bounces' at the end of the stroke - sometimes click the wrong button or do something completely random.
Still playing with it though and the big screen & kb makes a nice change.
