My first post. I'm looking at buying a used toughbook. It will mainly be used in the truck. The main things I want to use it for are WIFI, GPS, and DVD. I've looked at some CF-28's on Ebay which seem to fit the bill but also came across these CF-73's.

Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks, i've tried to research the dickens out of them and I think the 28 would be a good fit. So what should I look for in buying a used 28? Do you guys know of any good places to start looking? Thanks. Stiffnecked.

Ebay is a good place to start looking. There are several people on here who are very experienced in helping with what are good options to start with. Also, you could check out the abundance of threads here to see what is, is not, or could be made available to a 28 if you have the patience and skill needed to perform the modifications that are listed throughout. Godd luck with your endeavor.

    Welcome Stiff

If I where in the market for a good used CF-28 with all the bells and whistles at a fair price I would contact user Toughbook on this forum and ask him about the Ultimate Tough book.
If you have a ton of time and want to try to build something for yourself then you are in the right place. I suggest you research the Dickens out of them on eBay and try to find a good deal.
If you read here most say don’t worry about the factory GPS but do try to get one with a touch screen for your use. I prefer the 800 or 1000 MHz models if you can find one at a reasonable price and make sure you get a hard drive caddy as they can cost you as much as the laptop.

    Hope this helps.

I build and sell them on ebay for a living... However... Anyone with some electronics skill and who is handy with a soldering iron can do most of what we talk about here. It just comes down to...

    1. Do you have the skills to do the job?
    2. Do you feel comfortable tearing into your new laptop?
    3. Do you have the time to do it?

Most of the mods we do here are fairly easy. Other require a bit more skill but can be accomplished if you answered yes to questions 1, 2 & 3.

Of course if you have any questions... We're always here to help you... Or make fun of you if you screw up! ;)

Toughbook, what seller name do I look for on Ebay? I can install new memory modules and that's it. Beyond that I wouldn't have a clue.

My seller name on ebay is klaatubarradanicktoh. Named after one of my favorite old movies... "The Day The Earth Stood Still"... If you haven't seen it... You MUST watch it!

Don't sell yourself short. If you think you want to try... We're here to help you!

If you're up for learning, we'll teach you. Toughbook (The guy that posts here, not the brand ;) ) makes some great books with some cool stuff in them.

If you're looking for a base system though, ebay is a great source. Some of us also might have a spare laying around if you can't find anything good on there.
