Anyone have an idea on following specs for heater cable on CF-29:
1) Opening voltage on the heater cable ?
2) Surface temperature ?
thanks in advance.

WOW! I was just gonna post a thread asking this same question! WOW! PERFECTO!
I was too wondering... My main concern is that I used a piece of scotch tape to secure the HDD heater on my newest CF-29 and am concerned that it may melt... Should I be concerned? -
No idea, but after a couple years of use in sub 0 temps good old electrical tape works good. scotch tape may lose its adhiesive and go brittle though.
its cooler out today so I may yank a drive and hook up a thermometer just to find out surface temp. -
Its 5Volts and it has sensor to automatical shut it off and on. My wild guess on temp is at 15 or maybe above just to wake up the Hdd when its in cold temp.

Yup! thats why at 15 below will kick up the heater.
Wait a minute, are we talking about deg. cent.... or fahren...t? Lol

I am going to borrow a Professional Infrared Thermometer and let you guys know my findings... later
-
I'm talking farenheight... us damn americans like to do things the stupid way, remember?
Really??? Below 60F it will kick in??!??! That's not cold at all...
Well anyways... BUMP -

I just had my CF-31 report a hdd temp of 13 C.
At least for the CF-31 I can confirm that it takes more the 15 C to start the HDD heater. -
CF-29 Mk4. heater seems to kick in at 10c and the heater wire heats to 34c.
sorry I didnt get a chance to find anything on the power draw -
Scotch tape sucks. Don't go there. Electrical tape tends to leave a nasty mess. 3M makes nylon masking tape designed for heat cycles and later removal. Not certain how well it ages though. The stuff that came with my 31 caddy only comes off with an act of congress. No, not THAT kinda congress! Some people's minds... -
Kapton tape

LOL old busted you so crazy! you made me spit my beer.

Hrmm... is there a way to configure the heater short of disconnecting it? I have an SSD... which technically shouldn't be affected by reasonable cold.
-
I still do beleive that eventhough you have an SSD hdd it still need the heater specially on extreme cold condition but If you insist. Just pull out the plug on connector into its socket.
ohlip -
Operating specs allow lower temps than mechanical drives, but ssd's do not like freezing temps
Technical specs on heater cable ?
