My cf-29 HLTGZBM ("mk3") has a dim screen and a irradic touchscreen (tried toothpick), I also have a Cf-29 ETKGDKM ("mk2") with a good lcd and touchscreen. I'd like to test the mk3 invertor and touchscreen pcb. If its not the lcd invertor, its probally the backlight, right, and if its not the touchscreen pcb its the touchscreen. I want run the mk3 lcd off the mk2 lcd invertor/wiring and switch over the mk2 touchscreen pcb to the mk3 to test the touchscreen. Is this ok to do this, are they the same parts, voltages etc ?

Edit: All CF-29 top halves may be switched between Marks.

The easiest way to do this is to un-plug the lcd and touchscreen from the 29H. But before continuing re-plug them in and out to make sure corrosion is not the issue and test.
Assuming no change remove the entire top half from the 29E, lay it on top of the 29H screen so the cables will reach and plug it into the connectors. It helps my big fingers to pull the modem out of the way. Then if it's working right remove the 29H top half and put the 29E in it's place.
To expose the connectors with-out pulling the top half:
    1. Remove KB bezel.
    2. Remove right hinge cover.
    3. Lift and roll KB out of the way.
    4. Remove black cover.
On the 29E do the above plus remove left hinge cover.
Un-screw hinge screws. Two in top,one in back for each side.
    Dis-connect TS and LCD connectors.
At this point you can pull the halves apart. The trick is feeding the wide plug through the hole. Deere recommends and I use it most of the time to pull the two little screws from the pass-through antenna connector so it can be slid to the side out of the way. Don't worry it's not that hard to line the pass-through up again later.
It may not seem to be the case but this is easier than splitting the lid and moving components between machines.

Or send the 29H to me and I'll fix it for a consideration. :)

Thanks for that. Its good information. http://forum.notebookreview.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif. So I can exchange the top half screen/touchscreen whole assembly including the case/bezel etc in other words I can do it "as a whole" as you've discribed. But can you exchange the parts individually?... Like If I wanted to use my mk2 for parts or my mk5 could I exhange the touchscreen, ts pcb and lcd inverter individually to put them in the mk3 ?

    Sure. :)
Yah and there is a way to split the lid and pull the TS and bezel off (after un-plugging the FPC) I think you pull two screws not counting the ones to split the lid.

Don 't forget to check to cables for cracks or broken wires. Odds are good the touchscreen issue is the panel itself. Is the lcd dim or completely black? Can you see the screen if you shine a flashlight on it? Any red tint?

The screen is still bright, its just a shade or two down from my mk2.
There's no red tint with or without a flashlight. If the inverter was going would the screen be slightly dim ? I'm thinking now that maybe the backlight is getting old. Where could you get a good backlight for a Sanyo TM133XG-A01-01. I'll probally get a spare inverter anyway though

For the touchscreen its most likely the panel, I agree and I'll be putting in a good mk5 touchscreen

Did you try the hot keys to adjust the brightness? Fn +F2. It could be just a different manufacturer of the lcd. Different nit rating.

Does anyone know if its possible to get the same type backlight thats in the TM133XG-A01-01 Sanyo screen. Where would I get it a good one ? I've read that it uses 2 mm x 275 mm ccfl lamp ? but what spec should this have ?

Have you ever changed a backlight tube before? It's a job that requires patience and attention to details. The bulbs are very fragile.
I have done it to a cf 51 because I had the 2 lcds already. It cost me nothing. What does a lcd panel with your desired nit rating cost? I know for a fact that cf29's came with 2 different panels. I could not find the nit ratings to compare them though. I think they used a different one for touch and non touch.
I ended up using a brand new panel that I got for about $10. It was sold for a HP, but is the same as one of the one's used in a cf29.
