Looking for some info on how to and where to get the parts to add gps to a cf-30. MK3 I see ohlip has found an alternative to the factory bump out, any info on this?

I would also like to know what I need to activate wwan on the same laptop with bell mobile highspeed? I have the wwan antenna, but i think thats it.

    Thanks

I like the looks of the factory CF-30 GPS antenna "bump-out" and have been wondering about the difficulty in adapting it to the CF-29.

    Anyone here tried that yet?

My CF 30C3DAZB just started doing this:
The following keys give the wrong characters when typed

    uiop gives 456-
    jkl; gives 1234
    m gives 0

I installed a new keyboard and still get these incorrect results.
What would cause this and what is the fix?

    Thanks

Sounds like you have the NumLk turned on. Is the light illuminated above the "1" below the touchpad?

Hello, first time poster, think I have read all the stickys first! :)

I have been asked by a CF 30 owner why his toughbook beeps quickly on start up? It beeps for about a second or two and the beeps are very, very quick so no way of counting them!

After it beeps it starts up with no problem and can be used normally but he is just worried that it is telling him something is about to fail.

The only thing that has happened to it is a keyboard change a few months ago.

I have read the manual but it's not in there.

Anyone have any ideas on what this might be?

    Cheers Vince

    *update*

The customer has also just informed me that the touchscreen doesn't work! Whenever you press on the screen the cursor jumps down to either the bottom left or right of the screen. I'm guessing this will need to be replaced? The touchpad works fine.

Both of my CF-30's beep upon a cold start.
As for the touchscreen issue. Us a flat toothpick, a cut-up thin piece of plastic. There is debris between the touchscreen and the bezel creating pressure.
Of the 4 toughbooks that I have, all have touchscreens, and I perform this chore as a maintenance item every so often

Hello, guys, I'm new in this forum but already love it :) It is really cool place to share ideas and learn new stuff.

By any chance if someone has and can share the schematics for CF30 ?
I have an idea for a simple mod, any help will be greatly appreciated!

    Thank you.

Welcome to the forum. If you could post your full model It would give us a better idea which one you need. There is about 100 manuals for the CF-30  Also you will need at least 5 post before you can PM... plus you have no email address in your profile. ;)

Hello toughasnails, thank you for the fast reply, the model according to the Panasonic web site is MK1, is there a big difference with the other models when it comes to the mainboard signals, internal ports ?

I need the schematic manual to check some signals and eventually to connect a small device to it.

    Thank you once again. :)

Glad to find this site! Just bought my first TB (CF-30) and love it! The day I got it, I installed OEM GPS, 4GB Kingston RAM, 500GB Hitachi HDD, rubberized BL KB, DVD±RW. Working on getting the WWAN running. Just bought a NIB CF-31, should be here in the AM. Thank you all for your expertise and willingness to help out us "TB Newbies".

I figured that I would resurrect this old thread...

I just wanted to post that I have been using TechTuff's GPS setup for the CF-30 with amazing results. His pricing on ebay is on par with buying all the parts yourself. I figured I would try it as a timesaver... Plus, well... It just looks cool.

It is a 50 channel model and the cool thing is that it doesn't drain the battery as some can. I have compared this against the other kit on ebay and this blows it away easily... Both on performance and ease of installation.

I don't see any kits on ebay right now but Techtuff should have some up soon I would think.

Just to clarify....This is the restore / recovery disk we mean...This maybe for a different model / mark, but Panasonic recovery disks only look like this.

We don't mean a OEM disk from DELL, SONY, MICROSOFT, APPLE....etc..

Welcome to the Panasonic Toughbook forum

You are good to go...The Core Duo MK1 is the only one need to upgrade the BIOS to install W7 and since yours is a Core 2 Duo MK2 your BIOS is OK. Good luck on the W7 upgrade.

Absolutely. Requires a touch panel (suggest techtuff) and a TSPCB. The wire should be there waiting for you. Or switch out to a cheapo Touch LCD from a MK2 and pay about the same.

A little help please? I'm the proud owner of a CF-30K3PAQAM from the City of Tulsa surplus property auction for $20. (Yes that's right! I SHOULD have bought the entire 20 unit lot...). It's been downgraded from Vista Business to XP Pro, but when they "wiped" it, I can't get administrator privileges even in F2 set-up. It has the OEM 2 gig RAM and no optical drive. I plan to upgrade it to Win7/32 and 4gig of RAM which brings me to my first question. I'm looking at Kingston RAM. Should I buy a pair of 2 Gig modules or just add one? About an optical drive: DVD burners are dirt cheap that fit into the space. Other than getting a driver for the video write, and the extra 12 watts used while writing, tell me what I need to know about a non-OEM optical drive for the CF-30. What is a source and good price for a used/re-furbished OEM drive? A $22 AC power supply later, I didn't know I had bought a $1000 feeBay laptop.
Any help with getting Admin, so I can re-load XP-Pro to download Win7 (save $100-ish shop fees) would come with a present!

You should be able to load any OS you want without needing to do anything in the BIOS.

Does the HDD have a password lock on it, or are you asking about a BIOS password lock?

We have to tread carefully because this board does not tolerate any talk about bypassing passwords.

There are other boards where we can discuss this in depth.

Welcome to the Panasonic Toughbook forum

Well you really did get a good deal....below is what you 30 had when it left the factory...

    Model Number : CF-30K3PAQAM
    Status : DISCONTINUED
    MSRP : $2,000

Description: WinXP (Vista COA), Intel Core 2 Duo SL9300 1.60GHz (Centrino2), vPro, 13.3" XGA Non Touch, 160GB, 2GB, Intel WiFi a/b/g/n, TPM1.2, Bluetooth, Single Pass (WWAN), Gobi, No Drive

Like Shawn said if you are talking about a BIOS password then we can't help you. Forum rules are here... http://forum.notebookreview.com/pan...reading-anyone-who-posts-panasonic-forum.html
To the point... There will be ZERO TOLERANCE for anyone asking for anything having to do with how to bypass/reset passwords

It would work better with matching sticks of memory...buy 2

Not any drive will work in these. You need one like this that has the "caddy". If you look at the pictures you will see what I mean CF 30 DVD RW Panasonic Toughbook CF VDM301U DVD Multi Drive Pack | eBay . Also check out post #115 in this thread on another cheaper way to fit one in your CF-30 using a CF-51, 52 or 74 cd-rom .

All you need to do is get the Panasonic Restore Disk for your model. It looks like the one that Shawn uses as his picture.

Hi, wondering how you looked this up? I tried the configurator and it would not take the model number.

I'm looking into buying a CF-30 MK2 or 3 with touch but I'm not sure how to be certain that it has it.

Also, is it true that the touch versions are finger touch and not stylus only like some of the Thinkpad tablets?

When you go to "Configure" you must put it in like this CF-30K3PAQAM , all Caps or it will not work and only good for USA models. Yes the Touch versions are finger touch or stylus.

cf30's are starting to show up used here in Oz finally. At present there are NO CF28's or 29's on Ebay Oz. plenty of Mk 1 and 2 CF19's. The cf30 model I wondered about is cf-30ktpaxam.

In the toughbook configurator here: Toughbook Configurator Build a Toughbook with the Toughbook Configurator - Toughbook Configurator Build a Toughbook with the Toughbook Configurator I get the following:

    Model Number:
    CF-30KTPAXAM

    MSRP:
    $2,200
Description: WinXP (Vista COA), Intel Core 2 Duo SL9300 1.60GHz (Centrino2), vPro, 13.3" XGA Touch, 160GB, 2GB, Intel WiFi a/b/g/n, TPM1.2, Bluetooth, Single Pass (WWAN), Wireless Ready, No Drive

and wondered how that sits in the range of configs offered for the CF30.

About A$800. There are brand new (I think) CF19's listed on Ebay Oz with some priced over A$6000, and there's a CF31 up at the moment for over A$7000. And some CF25's for under A$100.

    2 months ago, i bought several CF-30s mark3 for 300 euros/a piece.
Also bought two CF-19s mark 1 for 220 euro/a piece. All have batteries that last minimal 4 hours. the CF-19s look like almost new.

Is there a chart anywhere which decrypts the meaning of the serial numbers?
    I've found a seller who lists CF-30C and CF-30F as Pentium 1.6GHz.
Could that be true? Google found me a "C" that's a 1.6 Core Duo.
    Thanks for any help.

p.s. He also has CF-29 listed as Pentium M 1.6GHz.

    p.s.s. I found it here http://toughwiki.com/index.php?title=CF-30
