Just bit the bullet
Tonight I bought a CF-29CTPGZKM. All port covers intact, good battery, power supply etc... 40gb hard drive loaded with XP. 512 on the board. 1.2 ghz. First thing, Im going upgrade to 7200rpm hard drive.
May need to part ways with my cf-28 to cushion the blow to my bank account. -
Hi, I also got my CF-29ETKGDKM from Hitech Assets on ebay for $850 and it came with a DVD/CDRW, 512MB of ram and 40GB HD. It has integrated wireless WAN with CDMA Sprint EVDO card. I'm looking to buy/trade this card with HSDPA (GPRS/EDGE of AT&T). Does anyone know any info.?
Thanks. -
Wow! Two converts in ONE NIGHT! I think that is a record!
Mil3... Welcome to the forum! You'll find it a slippery slope as you slide into all the mods you will be wanting to do to it!
KUSA! WAY TO GO! -
I looked at hightech assets today and didn't find anything.

I thought the HSPDA modules are all mini PCI express. I know they will swap into the most recent CF-29 series (1.6ghz). Not sure about the lower versions. I thought all they had was EDGE for that type of connection. If you find a module that fits that...let me know also.
-
Search e-bay for Sierra Aircard. I'm not sure of the model Number, 560 or 580 one or the other is hspda, I wish I could get decent service from AT&T where I travel.
-
The Sierra wireless 860 aircard has 3G. Is that what the wireless module is? Just an aircard?

I bought the CF-29 GPS kit today... It should be here tomorrow. I'll see what it takes to put it all together and let you guys know. I'll be interested to see if I can learn enough by installing the factory one to mod my own installation. I have an idea of how to do it already... It's just a matter of summoning up the guts to start soldering on the mobo of my new CF-29.
I also bought a CF-30 handle to swap in so I can have a stylus handy when needed. The only problem is... The stylus' don't come with the handle and they are on backorder! So much for having a stylus handy! I thought I saw a 5-pack online but since I haven't seen one in person I don't want to take a shot and buy the wrong thing. -

I will keep you informed on if this company is good to go.I have seen CF-29,s go for 1200 dollars that at had 256 ram 40 gb hrd drv and a floppy drive and no touch screens. They are sold out of this item .I bought the last one and I dont think they knew what they had as far as the price rang!!!!They have a email notification option that will email you when they get more CF-29,s
Thank you for letting me join and the CF-29 is close to my heart because we used this computer in Iraq in our combat veh /WarLock/ to run our ECM that has saved many lives and even thought this tough computer does not have a fan it kept running in our vehical when the outside temp was 145 degrees and inside our vehical it would reach 160 degrees at times and not to mention the IED,s and vehicals beening hit.I hope I got lucky with this purchase -
lauricedvldog,
Welcome aboard! Thanks for your service to our Country.
I think you'll feel welcome on this site; we've got Marines and other crazies, but the bottom line is, these folks are smart and willing to help.
SemperFi, Pappy -
Well.. The stylus' came in but the handle is on backorder! RATS!
-
LOL, you just can't catch a break. Oh, when you remove the handle from the 29, keep the 4 post ring spacers, you'll need to put them on your new handle.
-
I found the 3G module. It's cf-wew29007cr, and it's $600-$700 for the modem only
. Design for CF-29 mk5, this is the HSDPA/3G not the old EDGE. Is there any way to get it cheeper

You need to call Heartland!

I just bought a CF-29MTWGZBM, what is the best way for me to get wireless broadband (located in New York City).
I looked at a PCMCIA card from t-mobil but you have to leave the slot door open when the card is installed.
I would like something internal or at least be able to close the slot door. -
You should be able to get a retrofit kit. I would call Heartland and check. Visit www.heartlandsi.com and get the number! STAY AWAY FROM T-MOBILE! Go with Sprint or Verizon instead! TMO has terrible coverage areas.

Hey All,
I should have my 29 on Wednesday. Any of you know if MK2 recovery disks will work with a MK1 (CF-29C)? -
-
The ONLY disks that should be backwards compatiable is the mark 5, and that would ony work on the mark 4.
the drivers on the 4-5 are the same, very little hardware changes between the 2 marks as well. mark4 will work with mark 5 as well. -

Anybody here has a spare caddy for cf-29? I just need one, pm me pls.
ANYBODY......... -
I just recieved my laptop toughbook cf-29 from laptop broker that I wrote about a few weeks ago.I only paid $800.00 and all I have to say is Laptop broker.com is the best webcite that I have ever delt with. The cf-29 looks brand new and works great and it has all the features promised. The computer did not come with any reboot disk or driver disk but it said in the ad posted that it wouldnt come with any disk. The company also has a money back guarantee if somthing is wrong.Im so glad im part of this group that has given me alot of info on downloading drivers if I have to do a full system recovery
Please look at the post that I wrote about this webcite and the computer I ordered. This cf-29 I bought for 800.00 This cf-29 has the most features of any new or used or reburbished cf-29 on any webcite including Ebay.com.If you want one like the one I bought you can be put on email notification that will let you know the next time they get this model in ! -
Ok... enough with the laptop brokers.... One more post and I'll delete them. If you want to commiserate or ask for help that is one thing... But no more hawking the site please!
-
I just checked my email today and I was told not mention Laptop Broker anymore in this forum. In my post I discuss how a bought a Toughbook CF-29 for a great price and I think that everyone in this group would love to get good merchandise without paying alot of money and without dealing with crooks on EBAY.COM or NEWEGG.COM and alot other webcite that will rip you off which are mentioned by other members in this group!!!!The group owner need to explain the /rules/ of the group clearly to everyone.Putting a smile face at the end of the responds to my post does not chang the fact that the group owner has a double standard.I think everyone would agree that the group is about positive input on the Toughbook CF-29 whether it be tech issues and the purchas of the computer. If the group owner wouldnt doesnt want plugs on webcites ie EBAY.COM NEWEGG and many others there wouldnt be a forum at all.IM CONFUSED!!!!!
-
Its is spelled WEBSITE MAN - we get it you are peddling for Laptop Broker - we don't need commercials we need good info - don't be confuses just quit pushing your site - it is quite obvious - No Smiley Face here -

Been screwing with the cf-29 wireless ALL DAY! LOaded new hd and xp pro service pack 2. All drivers are in and I can not find or get the wireless to function. It did with the earlier hd and os. ANy ideas?
-
If you go to the device manager, uninstall the driver (device) and reinstall with the Panasonic driver it will work as normal. I'm doing this from memory (which is always suspect with me), but I think the thing basically wanted me to decide whether I wanted windoze to manage the wireless or not. I chose not, and reloaded the Pana driver and everything is cool.
I hope this helps; if not, the "heavies" will sort it out. Good Luck! -
I just stuck my ENGENIUS EMP-8602+S 802.11a/b/g 600mW card in and am trying to get that going. Cant seem to find a driver and xp is not regonising it like it did with the 28. Know where to find the driver?
-
-
Thanks for the feedback Pappy. I got it under control finally...it only took all day. After talking Jeff at TB support I went to Intel and downloaded the 2100 network connection drivers for the MK1's intell 802.11 b card. This worked until I rebooted the machine and it went into a boot cycle...over and over and over. Had to revert the system then the wireless would not work again no matter what driver I used from 3 different sources. I finally said screw it and swapped out the factory wifi card with my Engenius card. I found the driver at Enegius's web site and I have had no problems since..knock on wood. No I can get to bussiness getting this machine in order before heading back into the field on tuesday.

Well, I ended up purchasing a CF-29 yesterday from a friend up north. I tried the ebay route but my account is still all jacked up. I got a CF29L (an MK4 series). It came with the WIFI, GPS, and Sierra card; 80gb HDD, floppy and a DVD/CDRW drive. Most importantly, it came with the original restore disks!! Yay! He also included an opened WINXP sp2 CD and the Pen for the touchscreen. This thing looks brand new and appears to be running great! It had no RAM in the slot so I ordered from New Egg. It takes the DDR2 pc3200 and all they had available was 1gb; the manual says it only supports 1gb of memory. I don't know if that includes the 512 soldered on or not, but the 1gb stick from newegg was only $22 so I figured what the heck. I will let you know if it recognizes it.
I do have a wierd 'problem' I guess it is. I have done NO setup or anything to the Sierra Wireless (the EVDO card) yet yesterday I noticed something rather strange and surprising. I was at work where we have NO wireless LAN's at all. I can never get a signal, period. After a while, I noticed the 'wireless icon' in the task tray was indicating an excellent signal. When I tried to surf the internet, I was able to get on! The weird part is, I found it was the Sierra card accessing the internet, not my wifi!!! How is this possible?? It still works by the way. I have disabled my wifi connection and am typing using the Sierra!! Am I just lucky? Or was there some kind of deal that when you purchased a toughbook, you get the "Cell Service Internet" included for free??Rod Drew likes this. -
-
My guess would be that your service is still good until the end of the month; that, or your friend forgot to take it off his account, and you're racking up airtime on his dime...
mnem
So... how good a friend is this friend...? -
mnem
See? Even the youngster agrees with me... -
So I am correct, then, to say that these EVDO cards DO require some sort of activation and setup and charge a fee? Most likely monthly like cell phone, yes?
-
-
I have one like that I got on Ebay about a year ago and every once in a while I will check and sure enough to this day it still has active service. I can only surmise that they came from a huge corporate account and it may be 20 years before they realize the unit was never deactivated. I am afraid to use it though because those aircards can be pinged and located whenever you turn it on just like a cell phone. I guess you could plead ignorance when they come knocking.
-
I could, but I would rather just either not use it, or set it up legitimately. I wouldn't be able to sleep 'cheating' like that. Just don't tell everyone else, you will ruin my reputation, OK!!

Ya dropped this there buddy...

I find that a shot of warmed whiskey and 1 Benadryl work wonders for insomnia... and keeps the PollenMonster at bay! -
I am merely trying to do what is right from here on in... and believe me, that is not easy sometimes!!! hahahahahaha -
