I was going to putt in a 128gb mSSD into my CF-29 using a PATA/SATA adapter. I was cloning it via Acronis true image using 2 USB to PATA adapters attach to my desk top. The message was cloning failed. Looking in "diskpart" it says no media on that drive, it did before. It doesn't show up in Disk Management now.

Is cloning a mSSD different than a normal SSD?

i have a couple of ways.
For windows use the program called minitool partition wizard free and just follow the wizard or go advanced to make more partitions etc. All the drives are plugged into the pc for cloning. Minitool will auto resize since Its usually different drive sizes. All partitons need to be copied, there is normally hidden partition and it will easily do it all for you. I normally use usb enclosures. I normally run dual os for laptops and single for my pc.
For linux I use gparted. I do the same thing I plug all the devices in and copy the partitions.
Last option is probably easiest is to put in the new drive and reinstall windows or linux. then move your data data files over by usb drive etc. might be your best bet on a old machine like that.
I have a retro laptop toshiba p2-266 with maxed out ram of 160 megs. Runs winows xp lite, 95, ME and a custom linux i modified bionic puppy. All these are on a single 128 msata. It was a challenge.

i just looked at your ebay buy. I bought a few of those of same model, samsung. You bought the msata to sata adapters or msata to ide? need for sure. If so get a sata or ide to usb adapter. then you can plug it into computer and run hd tune or similar. it will tell you drive hours and condition.

Thanks kschewe, that was helpful. I think I may have had a bad msata drive or it was the enclosure. I will have to check the enclosure as I know the drive is now dead.
Where do you get your msata drives from.
I have a CF-M34 mk5 and a mk6 that I would like to convert to, but waiting till I can get it right on the 29.

I would check the enclosure with a different drive and or test the msata on a modern pc in an enclosure. It should be an easy clone if the hardware is the same m5 vs m6 and uses the same drivers. Im in Canada. I bought 3 from ebay located in Canada. I try local since the shipping is usually more then the drive if coming from usa to canada ha. There are tons of the 128 msata samsungs out there.

here is what i use to test msata. pays to get all usb 3. that one is from China and works great. Probabaly just use a usb key one day once the prices of 1tb msata come cheap enough

I think I'm using the same thing, just have to put a USB 3 to sata cable to it. But I got one anyway, just incase. Thanks I'll let you know what happens when I get a new msata drive, I hope the seller sends a replacement.

I down loaded minitool partition wizard free, I have to say I like it better than Acronis True Image from what I can see of it and its free! I have not clone any disc yet, but will be soon.

its one of the best programs for windows. gparted is worth a shot on linux also. They are good enough for me. true image was very good back in the day and probably still is. it normally came free with a purchase of a wd hard drive at one time

I get a new drive tomorrow so will try it, looks easier to work with. The reviews are good to set up an SSD with XP and 2000, which is the next step with 2 CF-M34's.

Looks like the msata to Pata enclosure was the problem.

Thanks Shawn, seems you have to collect 2 of every thing to check 1 item out.

Someone once said; "Why buy one when you can get two at twice the price". A hit, it wasn't my wife.
