Hey, all. I searched around for an answer but didn't find anything so I thoughtI would ask out of sheer curiosity. On the USB port right next to the power port of my CF-31, there is a little hole above it that appears to be threaded, and the shape of the USB recess looks like a basic "what a 3 year old would draw" house shape...is this purpose built for a specific accessory? What gives? Thanks in advance! -E

The threaded hole is for the special USB cables that can be
fxed in place with a screw like you have on say a video-card
cable. This is to prevent the USB socket from ripping off
of the main-board. They use those special cables alot in the
auto-diagnostic world as the interfaces get removed and pluged
in alot, just saves the USB port on your machine.

Heres a pic of the cable:

Ummm... NEGATIVE! I don't know where you got that false information from but this is NOT the case here in the Toughbook world... ;)

It is, let's say, IMPOSSIBLE! Firewire and USB are two completely different platforms and the connectors are completely different also. Now, my CF-19 MK IV, little devil that it is, has IEEE 1394 built in with that port near my USB port..
Just info to pass on, take a look at your ports and you'll see the big difference in them....

I'm definitely curious to know what Tinder was referring to or thinking about; I'm running the gamut in my mind thinking about what trick he has up his sleeve to make that interface???

It is impossible... Everything is different.. Pins... Voltage... Current.. interface and controller.. Someone's hitting the eggnog early.

5V max for USB... 30V for FIREWIRE!!!!
Go ahead... plug that sh*t in...... Make sure you take pictures and video...

My guess is that he was a 14 year old kid just trying to sound smart, but I kept my mouth shut to the mean side of me and simply posted a sarcastic, passive-aggressive post. However, since we are all ripping this poor guy a new one I guess I will open my big fat mouth! :D

    ~Sorry~ :p

Another hapless victim wanders into the Panasonic forum. There really should be a pop-up warning when posting here, "Are you sure? The Panasonic guys will eat you alive if you don't know that Toughbooks are different from all other laptops...." :D
