This is probably a dumb question, but I can’t find the answer online. :)
I’ve got a cf-31 mk2, been a decent computer, till lately. Was having blue screen etc, so I updated all the drivers, etc, and now it seems to be working ok. I noticed on cpu-z the speed was hanging out at 798mhz, instead of the 2700 ghz. So I researched, made sure it was in high performance mode, etc etc. then read about intel dynamic &thermal platform. So I first tried updating it, and tried disabling it, and tried removing it. Nothing changes as far as the speed throttles to 798 MHz. Temps hover around 45-49 Celsius.
Then today, I got off early, so I’m piddling with this thing again, and noticed if I run a cpu intensive program, or even run prime, the speeds go up. With prime the speeds we’re staying around 2000mhz and up.. of course the temp was up to
So is it normal to throttle down so much when not using a cpu intensive program? Or do I have other problems? Im gonna go bald from scratching my head on this one.
Also, is there much difference in the cf-31 and the cr-53 besides screen size? I’m wanting a bigger screen and thought about just buying a used cr-53, or maybe a dell rugged extreme. I’m a field mechanic on heavy Equipment and use my pc a lot when working on machines.
Thanks, and sorry for the dumb questions

The CF-53 has a nicer screen than the CF-31, but it isn't as robust a computer. CF-53 is not waterproof and only drop proof to 3' (I think).

The 53 is a nicer computer to use though.

One downside to the 53 is it has very quiet audio. You can barely hear it if there is any background noise.

I have a 54 and its lovely. Much more like a modern laptop but not as tough as the 31. Equal to the 53 but much nicer display.

I'm waiting for the courier to deliver my CF-33 so I can check that one out!

Thanks.. I found a cf53 for 300 snd it only has 800 hrs, I think I’m gonna go ahead and get it, just for the larger screen size. When I’m plugging into a machine, I generally never have to take the computer out of the ram mount in my truck, so I shouldn’t have to worry about dropping. Now that I say that, I’ll probably drop it :)
I thought about just buying a new one, but riding in the service truck, full time, I can’t justify the expense.
Hopefully it will help with the bigger screen. In the meantime, I’m hoping to see about this throttling on the little cf31. I’ll probably just sell it when I get the other one in, but I can’t sell if there’s a problem

It's not a hardware problem. Install Throttlestop to make your CPU work at full speed again.
Also, newest Intel DPTF driver is called Intel Dynamic Tuning driver.
p.s. here is an additional way.

Thanks for the reply. I’m guessing I’m doing something wrong with throttlestop. I tried that last night, but didn’t matter what I tried, it didn’t seem to do anything, or make any changes.
I’m going to search on the new intel dptf driver you listed
