My touch screen was calibrating and working fine uptil just now... but after letting my son play paint, its playing up!!
Symptoms are - the pointer drops to the bottom of the screen, left and right motion are tracked fine, butonly the tip of the mouse can be seen.
Running the calibrate tool, the red crosses all register and move in sequence, but when pressing ending the calibrate i get the following error...

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers, but the same issue... are there any ideas on how to sort this??![]()

Is the mouse move when you move the the whole unit without interacting the screen with anything like the stylus or your finger?

Maybe it's broke or disconnected one of the sense wires attached to the edge of the touch panel. You could open the display and look closely.
A few of our members have fooled with these alot, please chime in to help Matt know what to look for. -
I have the exact same issue with a mk-4 touchscreen cf-29
When you fix yours let me know and I will ship mine out to you LOL
And two more cf-29 touchscreens that the touchscreen won't work at all
And a cf-18 mk-5 + a couple of cf-74's
I don't use the touchscreen ,it gets dirty too fast but I still wish it was working

The Parameter Error is just a sign that the touchscreen is defective, It is very common among all toughbooks.
The replacement screen for a 29 is DFWV84A0317 -
Yup - its DEAD ALLRIGHT! Gonna need to BURY IT NOW... NEXT!!!

What I lack in tact, I make up for in bluntness... -
So the touch is dead? Hmmm... Not cool!
It's still under warranty, but it will have tobe shipped back to the statesare the displays between the mk2 and mk3 interchangeable?
It's a bugger as the touch works! But just doesn't register in the right place!

Alex,
If it's the touch panel that's cracked or defective (excluding connecting cable & driver/software issues), just how difficult is it to replace? Precautions? Tips?
My 29mk5 lug-around, when I'm riding, landed hard on the road after the shoulder strap clasp gave way. Although it still works (albeit for some scratches on the casing and corner bumpers) the touch panel has a crack running across the screen... so touch is now no touch.
I'm looking forward to replacing the panel but thought it'd be good to know what I'm getting myself into. Thanks!!

To change just the touch panel is not easy
The front foam seal has to be separated to remove it from the lid front
Chances are unless you have a new replacement ,and new is not cheap ,your better of replacing the whole lid with a used one
The common method is to remove power, including battery ,hinge covers, keyboard ,cover under keyboard and pull off the two wi-fi antenna wires and the power and video flat connectors
Then you can remove the lid and exchange

Sorry for the repost. I just posted this in another topic but thought it may help here. Not all hope is lost. I just went through this. I kept getting the parameter error during calibration and was pulling my hair out when the toothpick trick did not work. I took the lid back apart. Everything was debris free still from when I had it apart before. This time I disconnected the ribbon cables and reinserted them a couple times and very lightly wiggled them a bit to wear in better connections. I put it back together and this time calibration went smoothly first try. Bam, I have a touchscreen that works. He may have just jarred something loose. Hope this helps

Good idea Spec, but as he noted in his post, he "cracked" the screen itself. This is now a definite toast touchscreen, not a loose cable. I am filing away your fix though for future reference as a lot of people have been having TS problems lately.

Sorry, I must be retarded. I still can't find where he states the screen is cracked.

Species.... More than likely you have delayed the inevitable. If you are starting to get the parameter error.... You are on your way...
-
so is this a running defect/problem with the CF-29's ?? the touchscreen just gives out?
-
Yes.... It is... Some seem to be imune.... Others have the "Touchscreenitis"
Every now and then you can get lucky by cleaning out the space between the frame and screen. Others not. Seems I'm getting less and less lucky! I spoke to Panasonic and they said they extended the warranty on this issue... But ONLY to original owners. -
Since the touchscreen on these appears to be a standard Fujitsu part pretty much across the board... have we found a generic Fujitsu (or OTHER MFR) part # that can be used to acquire a substitute?
I know there are aftermarket providers from china that sell touchscreens based on screen dimensions - there is a popular kit on eBay for the ASUS NetBooks like mine that runs like $80 COMPLETE, and that INCLUDES custom harness AND the touchscreen panel sourced from one of these suppliers.

Or, I could just be talking out my arse here... -
That reminds me of the great movie "Blazing Saddles"....
"Oh Lord... Do we have the power to complete this great task in just one night? Or are we just &%#@ing off?"
I can quote the WHOLE movie word for word... I've seen it over 40 times! -
Ahhh... Mel Brooks... they just don't make Jews like that anymore.

Ehh. My borscht-belt broke and my trousers fell down... -
Haha, you must of been listening to the great Kinky Friedman and his song; They don't make Jews like Jesus anymore.

Anyhow, I'll be looking out for a donor 29 on epay and just want a clean screen. Touch is not a priority and since I'll be 50 come August, those fingerprint & smudges don't go well with deteriorating eyesight. Come to think of it, I don't use the touchscreen feature much anyway.

If Teo ever runs out of them, then we will se some options
I wonder if we will see......

My thought about the touchscreen was more of a notion as to finding NEW parts that don't cost a fortune coming from Panasonic direct; my logic being this:
If these touchscreens have a high failure rate in the 2-4 years age range, why would I VOLUNTEER for the misery of spending $50-75 replacing my failed one with ANOTHER one that is as likely to fail in the next 6-12 months as MY ORIGINAL DID, when I should be able to find a NEW ONE from the aftermarket for around $125 that SHOULD FOR SURE last at LEAST that same first 2 years trouble-free as the one that came in my ToughBook?

Awe shucks!
So, I pulled the keyboard, and reseated the connectors, and ripped apart the lid and reseated the connectors. I opened the lid, pulled the connections and inspected the inside of the touch panel very closely. I cut up a kmart gift card into a slim jim looking check mark with 2 sharp points to use as the "toothpick" (one hook, and one poke). Cleaned out the gap in the bezel (while looking from the inside) put it back together, and viola (almost).
Recalibrate and then test the screen, and the attached file is the result. The lower 1/4 of the screen looses accuracy, and those 2 humps at the bottom are the result of my finger going straight across the bottom. I don't wanna crack it back open until it malfunctions again.
And then I wanted a better idea of where it's reading wrong, and did the 2nd screen shot. I just use my fingers as guides, so there is a little inacuracy involved, but not by much.
Comments or suggestions are definitely welcome.
We'll see....Attached Files:
