*Quoted from another post of mine* I do ask anyone who is trying it out to let me know how things are going. It is a labor of love.
If you, like me, are satisfied with your ToughBook in every way, and yet find the touchpad slightly frustrating, I think I have a solution for you. I have been using it personally for a while and I wanted to share.
http://www.luximedia.net/index.php?/mousespeed.htm (Please thank Rob Taylor and LuxiMedia Online for hosting this for us all)
After a bit of testing with other people, trying this out on both CF-29's and CF-28's, I think it is acceptable for use by the ToughBook community at large. It is very simple beta software, so use it at your own risk--though I do not believe it is capable of causing any real harm to software, and I can't imagine a way it could harm your hardware. It doesn't actually install anything, so there shouldn't be any problems a reboot to Safe Mode can't fix, if there are any at all.
Here's how it works. It looks at the incoming mouse data, and applies acceleration if the movement meets the requirements of being greater than a certain distance (this allows you to maintain precision) while being lesser than a second distance (this allows for the touchscreen to be unaffected). Also, it uses a hidden mouse setting in windows to help reduce the jumpy qualities that often plague programs like this.
All of these settings can be altered in the Options Menu which is included in the program. You can make it more or less precise and have it use different acceleration levels in both the X and Y axes, and you can change the thresholds on the movement. Play with it and see what works best for you. All feedback is welcome, as it is (and probably always will be) a work in progress.
It is in a passworded .rar file. The password is 'toughbook'. If you can't unpack .rar files, the easiest program for it is WinRAR, which is available in a free trial version.
Once it is running you can press ctrl + i to open the Options Menu. Click apply to just use the default settings that I have been using. Please don't give this out to anyone outside of the ToughBook forums crew at this time... I want to get as much feedback from more experienced users as I can before releasing it to the general public.
This program is free for non-commercial use. If you would like to use it for commercial purposes please speak to me before doing so. Donations are always both welcome and appreciated, of course.
This is for Windows 98 forward, though I've personally only tested it on XP. Sorry to you Linux junkies out there, but I'm sure Linux already has built in features and doesn't need any help. *g*
I have some more plans for this program yet, I want to include the GPS fix for disabling serial mice when I get some time after the holidays.

That's me, and I'm interested in trying it. -
Well anyone who is interested, I have the small program ready for a few people to try. I will release it to anyone interested once I make sure there are no bugs in it, if there is interest. Please message me in private with your e-mail box and I will e-mail it to you.
Currently it allows you to specify both the X and Y access acceleration as well as the point (min and max) that it kicks in. Unlike any other program that I've used like it, it will not mess up the touchscreen input. -
The only change I'd like to see is to be able to pin it to the start menu.
Thanks for your efforts. -
The program is still in testing phases, and something more polished will be released as I get more feedback. Also, just put a link to it in your start menu should work.
I personally use the following settings,
3 x-factor
5 y factor
25 threshold
4 precision
And WinAccel to 20.
Lower the factors if it seems to jumpy. Increase the threshold if the touchscreen gives you problems being jerky, up the precision if it is too hard to do precise movement. WinAccel is an actual windows DLL Call and it increases the overall read speed from the device.
I've gotten very little feedback in the thread I started to give me suggestions to improve on things, I'm really all ears here for you guys.

LannyBoy,
I replied to back to to your reply to my PM.
As I recognize and appreciate the effort I wanted to give you public feed back.
Just spent a short time experimenting (will spend more over the weekend) but these settings are showing real improvement for me. I also turned off Enhance Pointer Precision in the TP driver properties,
3 x-factor
10 y factor
25 threshold
15 precision
And WinAccel to 20. -
Thanks

Hi LannyBoy.
I'd like to give you feedback but first I gotta figure out how to download from the link you posted at Wikiupload. All I get is some kind of log-in screen.
It also looks like I would have to start an account there to use any of their services..
Thanks anyhow ...I'll try again later maybe its just me. -
Should not need to, should be a download button on the right side of the page.
-
Thanks...Tried that.
I'm at work and this computer sends me on an endless loop to enter the code.
I'll give another go when I get home
Edit: Got home and downloaded fine.
Installed and working, I'll be playing with it some, for sure.
Thanks Jay

Hi Jay,
So far I like it. I also like the fact that I can choose not to use it for certain applications, As it does not stay resident.
But I mostly just use it because of the extended range, I dont have to move my finger so far
It does take some getting used to especially after using the touchpad the way it was for so long. But I find it useful as is.
I find myself using it more and more. No problems encountered.
Later on I'll play with the settings.
Thanks for the contribution.
Chuck -
Glad you like it! I'm actually working up a better version in my free time (of which I have too little of)
Any suggestions welcome!

Anyone, other than me, get a Trojan Horse virus alert from their anti virus program when you try to open the mouse speed?
-
It works a treat on the 48 but on the 28mk3, lately, after AVG updated the definition list, it reports "Trojan horse BackDoor Generic9.BAVN".
FWIW, It's a nice little proggie to use, so why not activate it once windoze starts. I had a mousespeed3 shortcut in startup folder. Removed it to see if that was the cause. When I try to access it again, a dialog box says "Access to the specific device, path, or file is denied".
Oddly, mousespeed3 goes on working quietly in the background on the 48. Not sure where the problem is though. -
It is a false positive based on the language in which its programmed in. With the new update of AVG, AVG actually removed the file without prompting you, because it thought it was dangerous.
The program does not touch any part of your file system, nor does it make any attempt to go online. Feel free to debug it if you like. You should contact AVG and send them the file as a sample for them to fix their issue.
A really good tool when you're not sure about a file, and want more input use: http://www.virustotal.com/ It will actually use multiple scan engines to verify a file.
Other then that I don't know how else to calm any worries. -

AutoIT.
Great program. -

Sorry for everyone who has been asking me to directly send them the file, I am:
A) Working on an update to add a couple of missing features
B) Looking for a better file host.
Jay -
I hate to bring this back up to the top, but after my testing I'd like to find someone who would not mind hosting the file for everyone else to use. Works without a hitch as much as I've been using it. I'd like to share it in an easier to access form factor.
Anyone want to help out? -
I can host it. I have a website design and hosting company (aside from being a cop which is my health insurance providing job). Go to my website in my signature and send me a message, or PM me.
-
HI Lanny,
When I link I get just a blank screen. I'm definitely interested so I hope the download will work.
Thanks, Sparky -
Yeah, the current download is not working right.
Hopefully with mrbungle's help, as well as my time, it'll be available for everyone soon! -
I just updated the first post, including a new download location. Thanks Rob!
-
I'm going to test this out on the numerous CF-29/CF-30's I have and get back to you. The biggest complaint I have is the touchpad! Thanks for all your hard work!
-
Thats why I made it Ludedude,
Thanks alot, and let me know how it works for you, I'm working on a few new features as well currently.. just hard to find the time.
Jay -
Thank you works great!
-
Your welcome!
I've been putting some time into a couple improvements, including the GPS mouse issue patch to stop the jitter. I've just been busy enough lately that I've not had 4-5 hours to do it. =/
Someday! -
Works pretty good, except for one tiny problem. (Although I've found a temporary workaround for that.)
It keeps setting yfak=20 in mousespeed.ini, so what I've been doing is to make a file mousespeed.ini.bak with the settings I want, and instead of putting mousespeed3.exe in the startup folder, I've put a mousespeed3.bat that I made into the startup folder.
Code:@ECHO OFF REM Fix Settings COPY C:\PROGRA~1\MouseSpeed\files\mousespeed.ini.bak C:\PROGRA~1\MouseSpeed\files\mousespeed.ini REM run MouseSpeed 3 start mousespeed3.exe REM Close DOS window EXIT
-
I know it's been a while, but could I get a link to this download? I would like to improve my touchpad responsiveness. Thanks!
Rusty -
Hey WOW... I dunno how I missed this. I'm interested too...
How 'bout it MrBungle? Are ye still hosting it?

Are we boned? -

(just have to click on mousespeed3.exe to download it of coarse...)
-
Works fer me too... I'm having an issue with my 28Mk3 where since I replaced a faulty TouchPad, the resolution in the vertical axis seems to be about half that of the horizontal. This sounds like it would allow me to address that issue...
Thanks Doob, for locating it for this lazy old Dwagon, and thanks Rob, for hosting it!

I just tried " mousespeed3 " I use a bluetooth mouse on my TB and damn this thing is on steroids
.Take some getting use too .Good job lannyboy.
Blair -
You can adjust the settings Toughasnails!
Glad you all still like and enjoy it. -
I use it religiously Lanny! It is a great program. It has been a while though, would you mind giving another quick rundown of what the setting changes do: ie, which is vertical; which is horizontal etc. Personally, I just use your defaults and love it as is, but others might want to tweak it specifically to them, as with Mnem and his vertigo mouse.
