    Hello all,
Sorry if this is repetitive...I tried a search but could not find any solutions. One of our touchscreens does not work properly. If I touch the screen to move the cursor, it goes to the far right of the screen. I can then move it back via the pad. It goes back to the right each time I touch the screen. I tried to calibrate the touchscreen via the directions but I always get the invalid parameter try again. It says to get the X's as close as possible but I only ever see one. I am missing something simple here. Any help would again be appreciated.

There should be 9 touch points (red cross on a white screen)

Only one is shown at a time - press and hold on the cross for about 1 sec then let go - it should then jump to the next location (for me it always starts top left, then top mid, top right, mid left, mid mid, mid right, bottom left, bottom mid, bottom right)

    Hope that helps?

Maybe soome foreign object under the edge of the screen.

I just had a problem with the touchpad on a CF-28.

It would just jump with no input. I took a piece of folded paper and ran around the inside edge of the touchpad and cleaned out all the gunk.

    Problem solved.

    Just a thought...

 Because my PDA uses a quick tap to calibrate, I'd always done the same for my toughbook, and tabbed to the next spot. Thanks to this I've calibrated my 13" screen now.

I would get the parameter error as well, running calibration. ( Touch and release and point automatically moves - amazing)
    thanks, M-M

I know what you mean - my PDA is the same, so when I got the toughbook (only last week) I did the same.....quick tap - only to find it didn't work! After a bit of frustration thinking the software/sensor was playing up I thought I'd press & hold. Voila....it worked and now the screen is a lot more accurate (I do wish there was a stylus pen with it though!)

If it goes to the same spot, try loosening up the screw on the cabinet nearest that spot.

I use the smooth end of a pinstriping brush handle. Not hi-tech, but works fine and doesn't mar the screen protector.

I got one of these in a PDA accessory kit:

    Works great on my CF-28.

did the calibration...no improvement. I also cleaned the inside edges with a thin laminated card. Cleaned some dirt out but no improvement. The cursor goes to the direct right side, parallel to where ever it was on the screen. I will loosen the right side screws and report back.
    Thanks again,

I remember having that problem when I first got my toughbook. I think the problem stems from the driver. I'm pretty sure I got all of my drivers initially from Modly's site from the 'P' section, but had the same problem. I could be wrong, but I think I grabbed the driver for either Windows 2K, or from the 'S' section. It also may have been corrected when I used the XPVideo-new video driver. Anyway with similar hardware in all the toughbooks I don't believe you'll do any damage to anything by mixing and matching as I did to get it working, and I'm fairly sure one of the above corrected the problem.

I think you are correct TB4Me. He should definitely experiment with the drivers.

I definitely think it is a driver problem as I just did a clean install of XP on my 1gb CF-28 and used the drivers that were linked to the Panasonic website via Modley's post and I am getting the same "parameter error" message when trying to calibrate the screen. The red X while being held does not seem to recognize this....

Maybe its just me, but I am a little confused as to which drivers to use for the 1gb model in Modleys files? I know that the (S) designates this model but there doesn't seem to be "specific" choices like the 600 and 800 mhz..

Like I said it could be me (like the title says "for dummies") but could somebody clear this up as I am sure that with all of the new members its going to be repeated over and over.

    Thanks,
    Dssemulator

OK, slowly but surely I'm getting this.... I went back to the Panasonic site (Modly's link) and slowed my brain down enough to actually read what choices I have BEFORE downloading, I did not notice the first time that there were different download choices depending on which operating system you were running. I think I downloaded and installed the Windows 2000 drivers instead of the XP drivers..... :( Note to self.....read the description first!
Reloaded drivers and it fixed the problem allowed me to calibrate the screen etc....

Next problem, in Device Manager I am seeing yellow?unknown devices.....

    Any ideas?

In think the yellow question mark is the hot-key manager. Have you installed that yet?

If that's the driver that controls the Fn key, then I had that same problem. The guys on this site kept after me to go to the Panasonic website and get the drivers. I did that and everything worked out fine. It's tedious at first because a lot of us don't know what the heck we're doing and are afraid we're going screw something up.

I thought that I had installed all the drivers too but, there was still that persistant yellow question mark,,,,,,
I went in to device magager right clicked in it and then opened update driver.
Don't let it search for an update, instead direct it to the folder you un-zipped the hot-key file to. It will find the .inf file and install.
Let your toughbook re-start and it should be all fixed..
At least, that is what fixed mine

Thanks guys for the help....I have done everything as described but still get Unknown devices ?video controller......

When I try to update the drivers and point it to the folder I have setup it can't seem to find them....I have "run" each driver .exe program and saved them in this particular folder.

I wish that I could be more help, but until the big dogs check in try one more thing. Find the name of your graphics controller, go to the Intel site and see if there are any updated drivers

My drivers for the 1GHz are otherwise untested by me because I've only had 600's and 800's in my possession.

    If any of my drivers are failing, check out this;
    http://panasonic.ca/english/customercare/sandd/softwarequery.asp

And try searching for drivers there. (Enter CF28S into the model box, and search for your OS only)

Try saving each one to it's own seperate folder.
If you save them all to the same folder then you might be overwriting the .inf file so that things won't load correctly.
If it doen't work we can try more options.

OK, after taking all the suggestions and still unable to get rid of the yellow ?unknown device error in Device Manager I decided to start from scratch. What I decided to try and was successful was to get a copy of nLite, Windows XP Pro W/service pack2 and add the drivers to the nLite program which creates a ISO image that would be burned to a bootable CD which I can now use whenever I decide to reformat my CF-28. (which I do from time to time to clear out all the BS)
    Hope this helps somebody else....

Concise, to the point and I'm sure it will be helpful for the pilgrims yet to come to this site.
