So I have the case of junk and dirt sandwiched between the touchscreen and the inner lid casing so that the touchscreen pointer is sporadic. I've taken off the outer lid and loosened the LCD, but I realize the touchscreen is glued to the inner lid... and that's where the gunk is. It seems pretty securely pasted on, is there a way to remove the gunk?

YES! And now that you have the LCD cover off... It will be MUCH easier.

Find/Use a thin piece of plastic and fish out the crap! You can look thought the backside of the LCD screen to make sure/see what you are doing. I use cut up strips of old touchscreen protector personally. The sticky side down toward the screen and work it back and forth... Just don't cut all the way through the double sided foam tape as that is what waterproof the touchscreen.

Out of curiosity, how doesdirt get into that area if it supposed to be sealed? I will take and blow some air around the edges, then blow the entire screen before I clean it to make sure there is no grit before I wipe. I can't see how dirt can get in there though? Trying to be proactive here........

You are talking about stuff the size of a grain of sand... Or smaller... The part that actually seals the screen against moisture is high density double sided foam tape... A thin strip all the way around. I don't know why Panasonic moved the tape about 4mm-5mm inside of the frame bezel as it allows stuff to wedge between the bezel and the screen. Perhaps the touchscreen sensitivity suffers or won't work at all? The touchpad is the same way. I think that should be better sealed too.

Yeah it's just general dirt/dust thats in there right now, just from normal use in the car. Thanks... unfortunately I put the thing back together so I'll have to find some time to take it apart again!

You don't HAVE to take it apart... It's just that it is easier to see what may be behind the bezel... You can still us e a thin slip of plastic to try to fish out all the gunk...

What about if you take the little hose that comes with the air cans? I run that little hose down in that groove and blow. i am so anal about keeping mine clean, it's nuts. Though mostly I clean it alot because of the film that gets on the keys from your skin oil.
After I have it all clean I use a spray polish that is made for motorcycles. Mine is a honda brand, I spray it on a rag, wipe it all down from all sides, then wipe it off with a clean micro rag. It leaves it spotless, smooth as silk, plus the bonus of being UV protected like nuts :D

I would say a compressed air can would certainly help. Using a compressor is different... I had mine up to 130PSI and blew keys off a keyboard the other day... That is usually how I check to make sure they are all secure. But at higher PSI... They can certainly blow the keys off.

MAN!! I am just glad he wasn't there for my prostate biopsy...That was bad enough as it felt like he was using a staple gun! BTW, the results were all negative. Getting older, while usually better than the alternative, can still be a bummer (pun intended)! Now where is my rubber donut?

Trooper, I was in MCB last month. We stayed at the Driftwood Inn, we started going down there about 20 years ago. I only wish I would have bought some property down there back then. I should have looked you up :D

    LOL -

Well, my wife sez the only thing that keeps her from killing me is I know how to make her laugh... I suspect there's more'n a grain of truth in that...

I'd gladly tip a glass with any of our crew in this forum... I've met a few, all good peoples.

And good for you on the good news too...
