I have a CF-29 that has a few wear marks on the silver trim around the screen I'd like to touch em up but I was wondering if there's a product in particular that I should be looking for to get a good match... thanks!

I'm not sure normal paint will stick to it... it is made of magnesium alloy... It is a very tough material... Some others on here will definitely have more insight than me though

I have never touched up the paint on the fully rugged models, other than black felt pen touch ups on the bottom black areas

On cf-71's and cf-72's I have repainted the entire lids, and have never had a perfect match , note that any paint I used was not very durable and was damaged easily

I would like to know if anyone has figured out the correct spray can color to match

"Dollar to a donut" ;) , I'd be willing to bet the original finish is powder coat and not paint.

I actually just painted my printer to match my toughbook. I paid $10 for a samsung ml2010 mono laser printer from craigslist. Because I'm a dork, I wanted it to match my 29 while they were in my van....

Anyway, I found spray paint at home depot for $8 that matches almost perfectly! I think it was rustoleum. Textured silver was the description, and the cap on the can was..... you guessed it, textured silver.

It's the closest thing I've found. take a look, looks better in person...

"Close enough for government work." ;) :)

I'll be sure to use some of that on my Canon BJC-85 when I finally get around to installing the rig into my POV.

(Now all I need is one each of those little " Panasonic" and " TOUGHBOOK" logos to go on the printer .... ;))

    Thnx!

Well, I have to admit, I"m not done with the printer. I had planned on unveiling my work here, after I finished it. I need to pick up some rubber cement to go ahead and finish putting on the diamond rubber plate I picked up from harbor freight :D

My wife often looks at me in disgust becuase I'm such a computer dork!

On a side note, there is a product call Por15 used on automobiles for spot rust inhibition. The silver is also dern close, if you just have a nick or scratch. it "bonds" to almost anything, almost permanently.

The black on my 29 has a small chip. I'm also gonna go out there and say powdercoat. I wonder what "eBay seller" is paining his quarter of a milion dollar units cause they look really good. Epic fail would not fully fit the situation if I tried to paint the 72's. I embrased the 72 Mk5's light battle scratches on the lid. The decal I added is destracting you from them.

I used semi-gloss black automotive touchup paint to repair the small wear areas onthe lower case of my CF-29. It seems to have held up OK.

A trick photographers use for scratches on cameras is black nail varnish. Ask your goth friends...

    No ideas for silver though.

I tried a silver paint pen today and it didn't work... a tad too dark and not shiny enough. It was a Sharpie pen. Might work for tiny little nicks but I'll have to try again with something a bit better matched.
