I have a tough book CF-29 mk2. I took my hdd and caddy from a broken CF-29 MK4 it has windows Xp so I put the floppy from the mk4 in the mk2 and bought new ram and I booted up and it goes to the screen of put in safe mode or normal but you can click anything and it will just freeze there. Also I have tryed booting from exturnal cd-rom. And it wont do anything with the ext cd-rom. "It dont have a usb in the back bay the only one is in the side". So I have install a program on the hdd to boot from USB and it will stop at loading boot sector. So any ideas thanks

What do you have set as boot options in BIOS? Is the BIOS password protected???
Is it set to boot cd rom first? A mk2 "may" not be able to boot from usb.
Can you try a bootable floppy disk? DOS ?

I have the bios to set to default and there's not a password. I can set one. It's not able to boot from USB. That's why I had to use that software to change the boot loader and it will connect and say loading the boot loader then stop. Haven't tryed a floppy because I don't have any lol. I'm trying to not have to buy a cd rom for it but I guess I have to.

So if I understand right , you are trying to boot from this drive that has all the drivers from a CF-29 MK4 ? It will not work...you need to reload windows XP and load the MK2 drivers.

If I were you I would pick up a media bay cd-rom...the prices have dropped a lot now that I have seen them for as low as $30.00 shipped.

Yes that is the best way to do it. I have tried to do what you are doing but never had any luck.
