And so I put a CF-VDW07 wireless display on my Harley ...

(Sorry about the crappy night shot, it got dark as I was installing it. Will replace with better pics tomorrow)

Right now it's linked to a CF-07 brick. Only 300MHz cpu and 256M ram, but enough to run Streets & Trips fairly well. Replaced the tiny 5GB hard drive with an even smaller 4GB compact flash -- poor man's SSD -- so vibration from the Harley won't kill it.

Next step is BlueTooth link to my Blackberry for wireless net access. Wifey says she won't ride with me if I'm surfing the net or chatting on this forum while we're riding

I'm thinking of upgrading my CF-18 to an SSD, then mount it in the saddlebag and link to the VDW for more cpu power. Then maybe iTunes with a BlueTooth headset in the helmet ...

    Whadda ya think?

I like the idea using a solid state drive , that was a wise choice

I am not up to date on this stuff ,but I have found the compact flash slow

Is the compact flash poorer in performance than the original drive ,or an improvement

Used a 300X CF card that seems roughly similar speed as the ancient 5GB 1.8" hard drive (e.g. used in iPods) that originally came in the CF-07.

    That sounds OK then
If you can use your cf-18 , it would be the best option though
That is if you can get it to comunicate with the display

No sweat on that, thanks to the Dwagon and others here. Just need the generic WDS server software from the JP site, get a Cisco Aironet PMC352 wifi PC card, set the IP and SSID to match the VDW, open firewall port 11900 and voila! Works every time for every kind of laptop I've tried (Pany, Dull, IBM, Toshiba ...)
