    Hello,

I have a Panasonic Toughbook CF-74 and I plan on replacing my hard drive. I currently am running a 80GB SATA Hard Drive. I am looking for as much space as possible because I have a lot of files. Does anyone know if there is a Hard Drive Capacity Limit or Cap for the Toughbook CF-74?? Any information would be really helpful!

You can put in whatever you want (CF-74) in it as long as it's a laptop HDD. If you are going to upgrade the HDD look into a SSD. This will really speed things. I find if you put a large standard HDD in, it will be slower if you put a lot of music or movies or whatever. Most of my drives are 120 's or 250's and the movies and music are on a external drive

    I have a 480gb in my CF52.
Pretty sure I have a 1tb spinner HDD in an external usb housing. If I have the energy this weekend, I will stuff that drive in an extra caddy I have and see how it goes. Probably a CF19 caddy just because that's the empty caddy I have.

You should have no problems running any size laptop drive available in your CF-74. Size limitations apply mostly to very old models with BIOS limitations such as CF-27.

Toughasnails is right, you will get a huge improvement running an SSD, which can reduce bootup time to less than half the time of a regular hard drive. Keep in mind tho, Toughbooks often have a slower drive interface to keep down the heat and improve reliability, so an SSD is not going to achieve the max speed specs claimed by the SSD manufacturer.

Look for good deals on used Intel Gen 3 SSDs on Ebay (cheapest option), or new Samsung EVO SSDs on Newegg or Amazon (best option). I've seen 500GB Samsung SSDs on Amazon lately in the $165-185 range.

If size is all that matters, not speed, go for a 1TB laptop drive. I prefer Western Digital. In my opinion Seagate has reliability problems.
