Hi guys
I have had a look through the threads and cant find anything that matches my problem.
I have a toughbook C19 (centrino model) running windows xp. I recently lost my power charger so the battery fully ran down before I got a new power supply. I double checked the power supply voltage and amperage before connecting it and its the correct voltage and amperage.
I had an amber charge light for a while so I let it charge for a few hours and now have a green battery light but now when I power it on I get a quick green flash on the HDD light, power on light and battery light then all lights go off and the machine wont start. the screen doesnt even flicker but i can hear the fans power on for a few seconds.
any idea how i can trouble shoot this problem. I suspect I may have blown something on the board but I am really hoping that is not the case.
many thanks in advance

I don't know anyone who can hear CF-19's fans))
But ok, disconnect your AC adapter, remove battery, press and hold power button for 20 seconds (ok, any time you want). Install battery, try to start.
Maybe this will help, but I think your new AC adapter is more dead than aliveShawn likes this. -
maybe its the hdd spinning up but something moves inside it anyway. I am getting a green light on the battery charge so I dont think its an issue with the power adaptor plus its a new genuine one so wouldnt expect it to be faulty.
removed the battery and held the power button on for 20 seconds, lights flashed on and off a few times but still did not start, i.e. it tried to start but powered off again. -
hmm seem to have narrowed my problem a bit more. I moved the screen around to tablet mode and it began powering up, the screen showed the power up progress bar but then as soon as i moved it all black again. seems like i might have a faulty screen connection of the screen ribbon is damaged. would this cause it not to power up?

The cables on a CF19 are known to go bad at the hinge/swivel.

thats probably the problem then thanks shawn.

Replacing those cables is tricky.
I would either replace the entire top half or take the money you would spend on a repair and upgrade to a newer CF19.
Where are you located? -
In the last few months I have done 3 or 4 complete screen/harness swap outs. Yes, they can be a pain. So if you have a Mk1/2 I would recommend you get at Mk3 or above if you are state side.

Hi Shawn,
Please advise me.
I bought the CF-19 with 8800 hours.
It came w/o HDD and I installed my own SSD-120
After that, I installed Win-10 just for test (I already have Win-10 installation USB)
Win-10 installed great and works stable.
I started to upgrade RAM.
Next RAM were installed:
- Samsung M470T2864QZ3-CF7 (in foiled folder) in lower slot
- Samsung M470T2953EZ3-CE6 in upper slot
I removed it and installed my own pair of
- Kingston KTA-MB667/2GB x 2
Exactly I carefully removed lower cover and battery flexible cable
After that, I started the CF-19 and it doesn't start.
I removed my RAM and installed the original back / no success
I changed original SODIMMs place / no success
I read your tips and removed ALL - SSD, Battery, RAM and started again / no success
Absolutely black screen and no BIOS page appears
What I see:
Bare laptop / After I connect it to the power adapter I can see:
- HDD Solid LED
- Brightness solid LED
- Nothing more
Bare laptop / After I turn it on I can see:
- Very quick all LEDs flash
- Power (lightning inside the ring) solid LED
- HDD Solid LED
- Brightness solid LED
Could you please advise me?
What might be wrong?
Thanks -
Just for fun, remove the hard drive and try to start it.
I would next check the flexible battery cable for proper insertion.
Those connectors for the flat cables have a latch on them. Did you loosen the latch to remove and reinstall the cable? -
Hi Shawn,
Thanks for the fast reply
I tried to start w/o Hard drive, battery and RAM = no success
And I tried to start it with no connected battery cable = no success -
I will try to post a photo of how that cable and connector should look. I will do that later tonight.
Watch this video. Maybe it will help.

I removed the battery cable, but from motherboard side
After that I installed it back
--- I cannot add my photos with it / How can I fill it to My Media here?
Tell me please
1. Could CF-19 starts and run BIOS without RAM?
2. Could CF-19 starts and run BIOS without right connected this battery cable? -
It will not run at all without ram
-
From the service manual

Thank you so much,
It doesn't help and I decided to disassemble the CF-19 and sell for parts.
Hopefully, it might be profitable
