    Hello all,

I am looking for a panasonic tablet, but I dont really know the difference in performance between the CF-18 mk5 and the CF-19.

I dont need the gadgets like GPS or UMTS. The tablets both have DDR2 memory, the CF-18 mk5 can only have 1.5Gb. But 1.5 is enough for me because linux does not neet a lot of memory.

Can you guys tell me if the CF-19 is a lot faster with the same 1.5 or with 2 Gb? Is there a difference in battery life? Or is it just a slightly upgraded version.

I am asking because there is a CF-18 mk5 1.5Gb with digitizer here in Europe for 777,- euro. The first CF-19 starts at 1100,- euro.

    Kind regards,
    Robot Freak

The CF-19 is a big jump in processing power from the CF-18.
    The CF-19 Mark 1 uses a Core Duo 1.06
CF-19 uses SATA interface for hard drives.
I can list many more differences, but they are all addressed in the forum.
I've seen Mark 1 CF-19 go for less than 750 on ebay.

If you ever think you might want to go for a big hard disk, or an SSD, this is huge, as the selection of

ATA hard disks is dwindling, and there's only a couple of low-end SSD's available.

of course, If the 18 meets your needs, it's a great machine.

If you plan on running Linux.... I'd go with the CF-18.... A huge cost savings plus, with Linux I don't think you'd be looking at a huge increase in speed.

    --HOWEVER--

You need to weigh the Digitizer VS Touchscreen.

With the touchscreen you can use anything to use the screen (Preferably either the built-in stylus or your fingers.... With the Digitizer you MUST use the special digitizer pen. You cannot use your fingers. However... SO they say.... The digitizer has its advantages as it is much more precise... IF you need that type of thing.

It is worth looking into either way.

One important improvement on the cf-19 is the location of the built-in speaker
Its it the lid facing forward, rather than underneath on the cf-18
