Yes going with 98 for now.

How do I reset a HD as I tried what you said on one of the laptops but now it has only a start up page on crashes so need to strip it off to start again.

Thanks again, told you I was no tech head lol

Sounds like it all went wong. :D

There is often a problem with " This Is How To Do It Guides"....they don't work.

Did you, enter Bios, set CD/DVD as first boot, Save Changes, restart & it boots from the CD....not the Hard drive?

You are looking at the wrong page in the Bios utility. :D :D :D

    I'll have a look for a CF-27 User Manual & email you a copy.

Also, you need to be aware that, of the thousands of people registered with NBR Forums, not many would have been born knowing everything, it's usually a case of....Start At The First Rung On The Ladder. :)

    Reference Manual sent. :)

    The condensed non-pdf version is:

F2 Bios setup utility> Security Menu> Use the keyboard arrow keys to select the value in Boot Up Drive> Use F6 to change the value to CD/DVD/A:/C:/> Now go to Exit Menu & SAVE VALUES & EXIT.

When the OS is installed on the HDD, go back into Bios utility & set C: as the first boot.

    Hi all,

A quick one please, what goes on first to the laptop, the drivers or the OS?

    Thank you in advance.

I have put XP on as the OS, just because I know it well lol

I did want to put on Office 2007 but it will not let me so I am looking at Open Office now, but the problem I have is I cannot connect to the net with them as I do not have a earth-net connector on the laptops or a WiFi card to.

Does anyone have any ideas please how to achieve this please?

Would like Office 2007 if anyone knows how to load it, thanks.

My comments about "Stone Age" were intended to be "Jovial".

The CF-27 is NOT "Prehistoric"....but they are limited....hence the earlier comments regarding nLite & such.

    Have a look at your Bios pictures....6.5GB HDD & 130MB Memory. :(

Office 2007 requires a minimum of XP_sp2....500Mhz Processor....256MB Memory....Open Office 3 will have similar hardware requirements.

So, you need to be looking at "Stone Age" software, I'm thinking....check the 99p listings for....Win95 on twenty seven floppies & Office 95.

On portableapps.com they have open office as portable (230MB) if you want to try it out that way with out installing. They have a host of other apps that can be run under there software suit or run by themselves. I use there stuff often. Even some that are no longer updated like neocrypt. Portable App Directory | PortableApps.com - Portable software for USB, portable and cloud drives

If you need more storage space you can get a PCMCIA to COMPACT FLASH adapter, OR PCMCIA to SD CARD adapter to expand your storage. I was using a IDE to COMPACT FLASH adapter as my main storage on my CF-28. Two had 4gb, the other one 8gb. I had to use that for extra storage before. The adapters aren't that expensive and the SD card prices have really come down here lately.

The Op lasted a lot longer than a dishwasher cycle....but then....I'm bound to exaggerate.

I would be the type to to get a child's flashing light and screaming toy and run a tripwire to it for it to go off. In a night opp and that went off panic of the unknown would be wide spread.

Do you really need Office 2007 ? I still use my CF-27 (mk2) 300Mhz, with Windows XP (sp1) , 320 MB ram, 20 gig hd, and Office 2003.

IF you need to open the Office 2007 documents, you can just install office 2003, and then install the microsoft update that let you view office 2007 documents.

I have 2007 Office on and it works great with that, but only leaves me with 3gig on the HD.

To fit a rubberised keyboard what model do I need to take it off?

hello fellas, dont want to steal a thread but iam also quite new to panasonic toughtbook laptops. my problem would be simple but cant solve it on my own. computer is up and running but cant get wifi working and cant figure out how to connect to internet. computer has 6GB HDD, PII procesor, 256mb ram, FDD, win 98 se, it seems all internal devices are working, also have PCMCIA wireless card but cant install drivers on a computer as floppy is only 1.44mb and a driver is 15 or so megs not to mention that havent got any other fdd device in any other machine at home.

so in short would be how can i get wireless internet working on this machine.

P.S. sim card slot, is it possible some how to use it for internet, tried my card but it was no luck.

cheers for your help if any.

"I have 2007 Office on and it works great with that, but only leaves me with 3gig on the HD."

With 2002 you can do a custom install and save lots of drive space by only installing what you need without all the extra features.

"To fit a rubberised keyboard what model do I need to take it off?"

I am pretty sure that the 27, 28 and the 29 will take the same keyboards.
Hopefully someone else will pipe up here and confirm or shoot me down on this.

My current office 2003 only takes up a little over 105 MB. I have access to newer 2007 and even 2010, but I don't need it for what I do so I have just left it alone. I will have to see how much more the 2007 office compatibility pack is but it's not much more.

The keyboards between the 27, 28, 29, 30, 31 will swap. I think the rubber keyboard will swap between any model and have back light.

Chick-let CF-28 only emissive will work on any one, but only the back light will work on models that have the "Texas" board installed on it.

    CF-27 / 28 white style chicklet non-backlit

    CF-29 / 30 / 31 black and grey chicklet non-backlit

CF-29 / 30 / 31 emissive keyboard. I haven't seen one in a CF-27 or 28 so I can't say for sure on them. The keyboard part will work but I don't know about the back Light.

Its me again, want some info please.

How would you link CF-27s so they can use a printer?

I want to run 5 or 6 at once for doing work on then printed it off, I don't want to look at WiFi as this would take gig space up on the laptops and cost, so looking at cheap and cheerful here, again lol

    Thanks.

Got something sorted here. need to see if the set-up works or not, that is the next step.

As said before got XP working with office 2010 on the laptops but only then got 3gig of space on the HD left, I will look at what others have said to do and see what space that frees up for me.

I haven't used one of those style cards but for my CF-19/30 I have a Asus XG station with a desktop video card and it works well. Got to use the newer toughbooks with it because it uses the express card slot.

The only PCMCIA cards I have seen were a long time ago and were only 8mb if that. I haven't seen any lately. Found only one on ebay right now. APPIAN TRAVELER 700-00171-01 PCMCIA VIDEO GRAPHICS CARD NEW | eBay

USB video cards seem to be the thing for a extra screen here lately, but they still have the low video memory if you are trying to improve your graphics. Not sure how they would function with USB 1.0, may need a 2.0 PCMCIA card to even work right.

A 256 megabyte SD-ram stick. I dont have my CF-27 at home now, but as i remember well, the memorystick had on the front and the back some chips.

64 MB standard + 256 MB =320 MB. Windows XP Sp1 works good with it.
