i just notice that there are 2 battery which are exatly the same for the cf-28,
the model numbers for them are -
    CF-VZSU18
    CF-VZSU18B

Whats written on the 2 battery is -

    1) Model no. CF-VZSU18
    Battery Pack
    Li-ion OUTPUT 11.1V 5.4Ah

    2) Model no. CF-VZSU18B
    Battery Pack
    Li-ion OUTPUT 11.1V 6.6Ah

Now what i want to know is which one from these 2 battery is the best one?????
i have tried finidng reviews but couldnt find any, all that came up were shops where there are selling them....
i just want the battery which is the newest model and better at holding its power from the above 2 batteries..........

cheers in advance for any help........ ;)

The 6.6Ah will last longer... They both fit... One just uses better, longer lasting batteries inside. Get the 6.6 if you can. I have 3 batteries... A 6.6 that goes into my CF-28... A spare 5.4 that came with my junker laptop and a front battery that fits in the media bay.

sweet, i have the B model, no idea how well it holds charge though, and also remember someone mentioning bios battery recovery or ocnditioning or something... i dont seem to have that, maybe a update is in order.
i have some fairly unused chinese import vaio batteries here
anyone think it is possible to change out the cells from inside if mine turns out to be dead?

The battery refresh option should be in your toughbook bios. Hit F2 when it starts and after it goes into the setups... Hit your left arrow key. You'll see it under the EXIT tab. It should be on the very bottom. It will take a long time to do... Usually several hours or overnight. Click on Battery Refresh and then hit enter. If your battery is already charged it will discharge it totally then charge it again. If it is discharged it will charge it, then discharge it then charge it again. It revived an older toughbook battery I had.

sweet, it prob is there never would have looked on the exit menu.
formatting my drive now will look later once the battery has at least had a chance to charge (it was totally dead on arrival)

This site has one of the best exchange-purchase deals I have found:
    http://www.batteryrefill.com/laptops/Panasonic/cf-28.phtml

I have to read more closely because if the CF-28 comes with NiCads and these packs are Li-Ion I don't
know how well the old charging system will manage the new battery chemistry - unless there is a BIO
upgrade that also upgrades to handle Li-Ion packs?

Found what I believe is a friendly seller and am hoping to order two CF-28's tonight or tomorrow!

    Thanks! David

well i doubt there will be any problems!!!
But what my concern is there say 40% higher run time,
so shouldnt there put some feedback up of ppl who bought one so we know exactly how long there run,
my battery gives me 3hrs after i did the refresh thing in the bios....
so if there saying 40$ thats means we should get 5hrs from there battery.....
why dont you email and ask them how long you get from there batteries.....

KD4E - All major MFRs have been using LI-ION batteries for over 10 years; the difference in rated capacity is NOT different chemistry, but newer revisions on the cells.

I recently purchased a CF-28S on Ebay with the heading "battery dead wont charge" and did a refresh and battery will work for 2.6 hrs light duty. Dont know if it was a new battery or new seller and didnt know what to do but have refreshed all batteries when I got the units,6 so far for employees and they all seem to work great. Dont know if this helps but just a fyi and your battery mileage may vary. All the usual disclaimers apply !!!

I just got in 6 more 28s... 3 of the batteries were flat out dead... Two will hold an amazing charge... Like 3.5 hours. The other one I'm still testing. I would imagine (I'm HOPING) that these times will increase after a refresh.

The cool thing is... I'm using a Panasonic external charger on one of the ones that was flashing red and it is taking a charge... Or at least looks like it is. I'll let you guys know.

Also... I just ordered 72 2200Ah Li-Ion batteries from one of the wholesalers on ebay. I've used his batteries before. After rebuilding I get a solid 5-6 hours out of the refilled battery.

I've noted a couple of you guys talking about x.x hours of battery life. Is there some way of actually measuring that or do you need to just use the computer until it dies? Can you 'fire up' your computer and walk away or do you have to sit and watch it 'die'?

Wow, I've never been dissed by a dragon before. It's kinda painful!!

I'm just aTB Wannabe - was hoping there was an easy way to determine the 'current' state of a battery.

If you use the battery refresh option in the BIOS... AND you have used the Toughbook a few times until you need to plug it back in or it shuts down... You will then be able to use the little battery status bar in the system tray as an ersatz guide to battery life. It will give you a close approximation. For those of you with new or "new to you" batteries. (From everything I've heard and read) you MUST use the Refresh Option in the BIOS to get this close approximation. It is wise to use the refresh option monthly unless you regularly exercise your battery.

Just a Linux plug - Ubuntu is very good at giving detailed info on your battery - tells you very specific info on charge rates and times as well has history and will even give you a serial number of the battery - very good info.

    Linux plug done -
