Hi friends. I've got a Toughbook CF-29LTQGBBM - a Mark 4. I tried a complete back up - aiming for a restore capability. On Windows XP, there was an option to do that - so I did, Then the back up crashed - because I didn't have a 3 1/2" floppy drive. No, I've got a DVD R/W drive instead, (which is great)
SO - any idea how I can do a full backup - with a reboot DVD? (I have a set of factory start up discs - but that won't re-load all me lovely programmes..)

For free software check out Clonezilla and for money Acronis True Image is my choice.

I took a look - thanks for the suggestion. Its all high techy speak to me. I'd have to totally trust what it is without understanding a thing. Seems to big a risk to me. Until someone can point me at a fix to update that Windows XP back up programme - to one that recognises a DVD r/r I'll stick with just taking copies of basic files.

I'll check in to see. Thanks - at least I got a reply :)

Forget the XP back up program, it never did work good as you know. I use Acronis True Image because it is very easy to use and it backs up all my stuff to a external hard drive. On my CF-53 I have a 160GB hard drive ($42.00 eBay) in a external case ($7.00 eBay) that I back up / clone to all the time using Acronis True Image ($20.00 newegg.com) . If anything happens to my 53 internal drive all I have to do is put in another drive and clone the drive and I am up and running in no time at all. I have 2 of these drives, one full back up and one just for stuff I never want to lose. The price of the external back up drives have dropped a lot the last few years that now in the USA you can get 500GB - 1TB for $50.00 to $70.00 and many of them come with there own back up software. I learned a long time ago that you don't back up stuff you don't want to lose to a floppy drive or DVD drive.

I can vouch for Acronis True Image, has saved me more than once with my CF-19's...very easy to use, and at $27 discount, a steal. Retail is $50 at your local computer store...Highly Recommend this post and product
