Would it be a good idea to swap my CF-W7's 250GB SATA HDD to a SSD for better performance?

If so, can anyone tell me how to open up & remove the HDD from my W7 or has a diagram of it?

Thanks in advance for any help & advice.

I installed a SSD drive in my F8 for better performance, and have them in both my cf-19 and cf-30

Boot up times decreased quite a bit over the standard 5400 or 7200rpm drive and it was quite a noticable upgrade

Issue with these ssd drives is lack of space as the larger drives are quite pricey

My latest hard drive purchase was for my Alienware netbook that I seem to be using quite a lot lately
I end up using this for downloads ,so space + speed were my concerns
The drive I choose was the single platter 250GB Seagate Momentus XT Hybrid HDD
There is a review of this drive here
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/har...e-momentus-xt-hybrid-hdd-w-built-4gb-ssd.html
It has the potential to have quick boot times and cost per GB is very low in comparison to ssd's

btw I sent some info to your email

I'm pretty impressed with the new Samsung 320GB single platter I just put in the 30. With careful setup and no XP trimming yet I'm booting in 40 seconds or less. That's with 40GB in the OS/Apps partition, and running Kaspersky IS 2011. Takes a little longer if Kaspersky needs to update. Got the drive for $49, shipped from Newegg.

I am having good luck with a Corsair F-Series and a Patriot Torqx. My Intel's scream as well, but they are smaller. I run the Corsair/Sandforce 128 GB and never worry about room. I simply put some stuff on my 32GB SD card.

    Hi,
I'm also a Toughbook CF-W7 user. I am seeking help from Alex or cyrilng to email me ([email protected]) the service manual. As I would like to know what is the maximum HDD capacity I can upgrade to and how to open the HDD compartment.

    Thank you.

ever since i bought my SSD, i find everything else too slow. :)

only thing i regret is not being able to put a decent SSD in my cf-28. frankly, those that have PATA connectors give real SSD drives a bad name. no matter, this thing still boots faster than anything i have (except for my asus notebook.)

Here's a video showing the steps on a CF-T8 which are similar if not the same. Not sure what is the max capacity but I think up to 512GB shouldn't be a problem but don't take my word on it though.

I'll email you the manual for CF-W7B Windows XP Pro (Feb 26‚ 2008) Part# : DFQW5115ZA. You can download other country & OS versions at Toughbook Computer Support - Manual Downloads

Edit: Sorry I've sent you the operating manuals not the service manuals. I'll have to go look for those on my PC later as I'm using my Toughbook W8 now. :D

On the maximum capacity question, I have a 500GB in a W7. I expect anything up to 2.0 TB would be fine. Above 2 Tb you run into the 32-bit sector count issue and would need to test it to be sure there is no BIOS nor OS problem.
