I like the way you think Toughbook and I followed your instructions. The only network adapter that showed was the intel 82579LM gigabit network connection (Ethernet controller) so I guess that proves the lan network adapter is not there. Thanks for the heads up.

I took off the bottom plate and lucked out, it looks like the opening for the lan adapter is right there just like the pic from Kamiar's unit. Now in that thread the antenna wires were present being the white and green and mine has the same configuration. I took pics from all four sides so I will try and post them. There is also another space deeper down that also takes a card. Let me know where the lan adapter goes, upper or lower slot. I'm thinking the upper slot. Thanks.]

Late to the game... hope this isn't too late!
kamiar, if you're in Canada, get the Sierra Wireless MC7700 or the newer MC7354. The MC7700 series has been certified by Bell, Rogers and Telus on their networks (and AT&T in the US.) Getting support is another whole new matter - in all my years, I've only found ONE person in Telus' Data department that not only knew what they were but could tell me some details about them, and don't even bother trying to call Sierra Wireless/Netgear. They won't tell you the time of day unless you're looking to buy 10,000+ units.
Here's the low-down. The MC7700 will work on LTE on all three Canadian major carriers (sorry I don't know about Videotron). It will NOT work on Rogers' 2600MHz spectrum. The ONLY aircard that works on that band is the Sierra Wireless 330U and it's an external USB. Generally you'll get faster speeds (ie. 20Mbps vs 10-15Mbps) on 2600 but only in urban areas where Rogers/Bell had their now defunct WiMax network, so you're not losing too too much.
I can't help you on installation as I've only used it on a CF-30 and my current CF-19 (MC7700 internal on Telus, 330U external on Rogers) ... this is from a lot of wasted hours trying to get a hold of Sierra Wireless and carriers and even buying a few aircards that are useless to me.
Both the WWAN and WiFi cards use the miniPCI-e standard but are actually USB2.0 through the pins. So you should see either card in either slot, but you should connect the proper antennas to each card.
Hope that helps! -
Thanks for that info canuckcam. At this point in time I am only looking to connect to my home lan system and I have ordered an intel card as well as another 4 gb ram stick. krtb in Canada

I installed an intel Centrino advanced N6235 network adapter into the lower pci express slot. It is a combo lan Bluetooth mini half card and put the two mounting screws in. I fired up the Toughbook and no matter what I try to troubleshoot the operating system still says it is not there. My kid ran a drivers check on the unit and still no luck. Anyone have any ideas as to what else I can try. Thanks

Did you go to bios and check if it is there and enable it.

Thanks ohlip. Actually it was a driver. I downloaded the latest update for the card from the intel site onto a usb stick and transferred the file to the CF-31 and it did the trick. The internal wireless lan card is now working as it should and kamiar was right. The green wire and white wire is the built in antenna. Just want to thank all you guys who were kind enough to offer advice and it was greatly appreciated. krtb

I think I'm in LOVE!!! I'm pretty sure you have to buy at least 50 of these to get them black. I'm still kickin myself in the butt for selling my black 19!
-
I hear you. Now I have the normal looking CF30, the black CF-31, and who knows what's coming next but we keep plugging and don't give up.
-
As long as you are doing "Night Ops" you'll be fine.... But don't use your black Toughbook in the sun!
-
Just got a CF-31 and wondering if I could get a better pics of what wires where used to connect to the wireless card ( Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6200 is what I ordered).

Hey Zacharyx check out the top pic in my thread on page 6. If you enlarge that pic and look near the right side you will see a white wire pointing due north. Pull that ufl fitting off the board. Then just left of this wire and slightly lower pull off the second green wire ufl. These are the two antenna wires that will connect to your new lan card and if you follow that white wire down until it disappears you will see that that green wire tracks along beside it. I hooked those two up to my Intel N6235 and then mounted the card in the lower slot with two screws. Now the windows 7 pro os did not recognize the card until I downloaded the latest driver from the intel site. After that it worked like a charm. Hope that helps! krtb

Been a minute but I installed the card and it works but only sees the 2.4 side. will update drivers etc when I get a second, worst case I will move this card to another one of my toughbooks and get a different one.
Thanks for the help guys -
Hi, could you please give me a short information on which side i have to put it on the wlan card, the green and the white one, on the right or the left side of the card?
Thanks ! -
