I just ordered a Toughbook 52 1.8Ghz and declined to pay the vendor 2x the going rate for memory of unknown quality and specs.

I understand that this model uses the Intel GM965 chipset, and that it should take DDR2 667 Mhz memory modules (2 of 2GB). Does anyone have specific advice on what memory will work in this machine, and what the best quality options would be? I want to upgrade the machine to 4 GB.

    Anyone need a 1GB DDR2 chip?

    Thanks,

    Allan Edie

Go to the config site with your complete model number. You should find everything you need.

No luck at the Panasonic site. They do not even provide the memory specs much less a list of tested modules.

Thanks for the suggestion though, it was worth a try.

Have you read the owners manual? The info you seek is in the specs section. You can download the manual from Panasonic or it should be on your hard drive in PDF format. For Example on my CF-29 manual it reads:
Ram Module Slot: 200pin, 2.5v SO-DIMM, DDR SDRAM PC2100 Compliant.

No, I haven't read the manual yet, I haven't received the computer. I am on dial up (believe it or not), so large pdf's take too long for my patience.

Anyway, since my last message, further homework suggests that the 4 GB Corsair Value Select kit with 2x2GB DDR2 667 SO DIMM modules is the way for me to go. I just ordered it for ~100 bucks, vs. the $370 the vendor wanted for likely poorer quality memory.

After I install it, I will post how it works out.

    Thanks for the help,

    Best regards,

    Allan Edie

I bought my Corsair memory from NCIX for 115 shipped.
2X2gigs 667mhz although it would have been 80$ had i mailed in the rebate.
I've had no stability problems with it at all. It recognizes 3.25Gigs but thats plenty.

Ditto, I have now tried mine out, and it is perfect. Highly recommended.

By the way, the fact that the computer only recognizes ~3.25 GB is a Windows issue, not a computer or memory issue. As I understand it, 32 bit operating systems only have 4GB of possible memory addresses, and about .7GB (in 32 bit Vista) of them are obligatorily assigned to things like video and PCI tasks.

I am not sure whether the 0.7 GB "missing" actually gets used by the system - the blurb on the Microsoft website is a bit ambiguous. At any rate, the 3.25 that Vista reports is not a problem, just an artifact of the 32 bit system and the way Vista (at least pre-SP1) chooses to report available memory.

Hey I know this is an old topic but I was wondering if anyone can clarify the memory i'm going to get with my CF-52 and answer another question.

I'm in Canada, and it is a well known Manufacturer here:

    Kingston KVR667D2S5/2G DDR2 Memory, 2GB PC2-5300 667MHz 200pin SODIMM

    This is sufficient correct?

Also, i'm only getting the one additional 2GB module, it's compatible with the other 1GB module right?

Did you guys have a hard time installing the new memory? Did you find instructions somewhere? Is it in the Operating Manual for the notebook?

One last question: are you able to remove the built-in handle (I don't have mine yet)? It's looks bulky and in the way.

    Thanks for the help!

    :)

I'll be doing the same as you, that is, adding one strip of 2GB memory for a total of 3GB. I'm told that a different brand shouldn't make any difference if that's what you're asking. But I thought that the 52 has 800 FSB, not 667.
