I was wondering about the advantage of a new toughbook versus a previously owned (sounds better than used) or refurbished one. I was curious about the warranty and it seems that by using a toughbook as I could use it (outdoors where it can get dirty and wet) seems to not be covered by the limited warranty.
How much benefit do you think this limited warranty gives considering the toughbook is as well-built as it it? Do any of them have failure issues not related to abuse/misuse?

Who besides the local police dept. or the government would spend the $$$ needed to get a NEW Toughbook??
Even the average constuction foreman uses an older laptop in the field.
$4,000 to $6,000 for a laptop to just make sure it has a warranty??
A total waste of money as far I am concerned.
By a good cheap used Toughbook, put in a new hard drive, back up your data often and save your hard earned money.

I'd personally save the extra $1000 or more and buy a used one.
If it breaks, it breaks, but honestly toughbooks are built well and it probably won't fail you. They have more harsh testing than any Dell out there, and that's why a 8 year old Toughbook can still be used (And people here have them!). -
Heartland services, (national service center for panasonic in the states) offers a protection plus option, i believe its around 300 bucks. but it covers everything except natural disasters. it is worth it if you will be using it outside, or stuff like that.
it even covers physical damage.
although i would still buy a used one. -

*Peruses the Toughbook actuarial tables* Interesting... Statisically, your Toughbook is likelier to die from projectile fruit damage than pet-induced blunt force trauma...
