I was thinking about not posting that but I would say the USB ones will be using a lot more power where as the SD one will not. I have used the scandisk SD PCMCIA card in the past when I first got into Toughbooks with no problem and I had nothing but trouble when I used the PCMCIA USB card.

Look I found that part you need for your other computer, (hint, hint)
Modem/WIFI+RAM/memory door cover panels F4168 G4164 for Dell Latitude D610 as is | eBay

I would say the power draw is just too great for the Pcmcia slot for USD all the time, I have used a PCMCIA sd card reader in my CF-28 and CF-29 for a while now without problems. They are always plugged in.

Yeah, the pcmcia usb card is designed to be able to supply enough power to turn a cd rom or hard drive, or power up a wifi or wwan dongle. All those things are higher current items (~500mah). An SD reader is going to be a nominal draw, way less than 100mah. I wouldn't worry about a pcmcia sd reader burning out the slot; it may be cheapo and not work well, but not necessarily dangerous.

I also need the CCFL to fix my red screen issue. I am leary about throwing any more money at this thing until I get that taken care of.

Hey, anyone who knows, can you swap a 29 LCD into a 28?
    How about just the backlight?

I have an extra 29 lid/lcd/TS(fried TS) I had been planning on modding for LED backlight.

Yes! the lcd is compatible to CF-28 but it gives you rainbow effect on the outside screen. You also need a clear TS glass panel like on the cf-29 or like those glass panel that are selling on fleabay. The cf-28 TS glass panel has layer different on CF-29 thats is why it give a rainbow effect. Don't ask me how I know this. Its been experimented by myself a year ago.

PS. I already posted this on tbt forum site last year.

I'm having no luck with this machine. Got some rather expensive radio programming software and got it installed. It won't run. Says "the procedure entry point EncodePointer could not be located in the dynamic link library Kernel32.dll" which I've googled enough to know means that the XP Service Pack is bad. I tried to update it, three times, and it will download new service pack, will go thru most of the installation, and then tosses some bizarre error and makes me start all over. God I hate windows.

    w00h00! A kindred spirit.

I do not use any ANY micro$oft programs.

I use Ubuntu /.~wine for one mapping program.

I checked in here to comment on the length of this thread and incredible number of hits.

Do you need help. What software are you running? (attempting)

Jeff ...PM if I miss a post :)

I'm running some stuff from RT Systems to control and program one of my ham radios. I've got to get service pack three installed. Apparently no updates were done on the operating system so it's literally taken me two days to get service pack two installed before I can start on service pack three. I've got to get another USB port on this thing. I can't get on the net and download drivers at the same time as I need to run the disc and get other drivers loaded. BLAH.

They claim SP2 will "cure" the dll bit. As I understood it by re-writing or re-installing the dll's when SP2 is installed.
    Good luck with it.
I poked around in RT and it looks like it could be run in wine under Linux. If all else fails we can play with it.
I'll check with my radio guy and see what he's using. I think it was dos based though.

Anything you can do to help would be great. I can run the software and cable just fine on my desktop but I'm unable to get it to work on my laptop. Both are now SP 3 machines. It's like my laptop isn't seeing the drivers for some reason.

If he's using DOS it's probably proprietary Mother Moto software...

Not yet. Sort of afraid to open it up. My FIL is a retired computer tech, I'm going to have him take a look at it.

Won't I need some drivers installed once I put it in?

I remember the first time I popped the bottom off my 29 to do the customtoughbooks gps. Terrified was I....hmmm....yes.

If I'm not mistaken, the intel 2195 card should work with xp sp2, natively. You'll need to get someone else here to point you to the drivers, sorry. That card came out of an MK3, FYI.

(I don't know if the driver is here or not, but modly has his own place. here)
(also check "ultimate toughbook resource" sticky on nbr panasonic landing page)
