I recently picked up a toughbook PDA, in the hope of using it as a stand alone GPS in the field.

Now wondering if it will work for that, but it was fairly cheap so took a gamble.

Full model is CF-P1S3BZA3M, A nice brick with a stubby antenna on top.

Anyone know anything about it, as the manual I downloaded is fairly generic.

    Thanks

    Sam

Well, to answer the question, I didnt know about the P2s, was sitiing in an airport, surfing the web, saw a listing for the P1's, they looked well built, saw a discussion about GPS, and put in a minimum bid. I won it and the rest is history.

Sam, I had one, sold it to Silver Trooper quite a while ago. Mine was the very rare GPS model, had a big hump on top for the CF card GPS that was in there, and the full keyboard. The thing is, I just got sick of trying to deal with Windows Mobile, truly a piece of crap. You can change the card in the top, regardless of what Panasonic says, its just hard without access to device manager, not available in Windows Mobile. When you need a battery, there is a Panasonic Video Camera one that fits, I'll try to find the info.
Good luck, it is a rugged beast.

Rob, the P-2s are NOT much better, a completely different beast.

I checked out the P1's awhile back(on the web anyway). It did look interesting enough to play with if I got a good deal on one. I do agree with Capt that Windoze mobile makes me want to scream.
I ended up with a G1 with Android on it. The main reason I choose the G1 instead of the P1 was my personal dislike of Windoze mobile. I imagine someone has ported Android that would probably work on the P1.
