Toughbook recovery DVD vs driver bundle download

Is there any difference in the result between installing Windows and running the driver bundle or installing from a recovery DVD?

 

Driver bundles can be finicky to install at times. Usually they install easily but once in a while they have issues.
On newer machines, the recovery DVD's will also create the hidden recovery partition. I prefer the DVD if it is available.

 

If I can that is the only way to do it. Drop the DVD in the Toughbook and let it run. After it installs, restart and you are done...most of the time. What model do you have ?

Yes I am . You know if Microsoft could only get theses so-called updates right I might feel different but with ever update something always gets broken and you end up spending hours fixing it. I never had this problem with XP, W7 or W8.1 . They need to do more than just say "sorry, we will fix in the next update".

So does each specific model have its own specific recovery DVD?

So for instance a CF19 MK 6 with GPS and WWAN would have a different recovery DVD to the same model with WWAN and a camera, and a different DVD again to one with none of those?

 

Well I have all the CF-19's up to the MK5 and the only DVD's that were different were the ones with a digitizer screen. On the CF-30 it made no difference.

 

So does the install check the hardware as it's installing to install the appropriate software for the particular model?

 

Good question. That's one way to look at it. I have used the restore DVD on many models of Toughbooks and as long as I was using the right model MK disk never had a problem no matter what the Toughbook had for hardware as long as it left the factory with it.
