I am wondering what toughbooks are able to have soundblaster compatibility under pure MS-DOS.
I like to play old DOS games on my laptops. I now use a Compaq ARmada 1592DT for this. It works nice, because the audiochip inside is soundblaster compatible.
I tried to use soundblaster drivers on the CF-27, CF-M34 and CF-71, but to no avail. The laptop has not native soundblaster support with MS-DOS.
Do you folks know if any (older) toughbooks have native soundblaster (or compatible) support under MS-DOS.
PS: I do Not want to use Windows 98SE, but pure MS-DOS 6.22
PPS: Or would Freedos or another MS-DOS-alike work ?

What about a virtual machine?

There are lots of good emulators that work fine. I tried DOSBOX and I played Blood with no problems
But your question is for sound... I don't know if sound will play... hmmm... -
From my knowledge, for what it is worth, the sound chip in the CF 28 mk1 is an ESS1988 and is Sound Blaster compatible with the correct drivers.
From then on the CF-28 & 29 use the Stac975* chips and are also compatible with the correct drivers.
So from this you should be good with any CF 28 or 29 but you will need to find the old DOS drivers.
Added,,,, I remember on the CF-28 the screen was only 600x800 under DOS and had a black border around the center.Shawn likes this. -
hi If you can go old school find a win 95 or win 98 and format bootable cd. it should be dos, I have an old one and it will boot of cd into an i7 desktop, just have to have sofarwe on disk or hard drive. remember any drive or file past 8 letters will end in"~". so typing will be a chore.
