Has anyone ever had any issues when you are flying and toting along your Toughbook? I don't expect there would be any but I am sure that when passing through security you might get a raised eyebrow or two from TSA...
-
Just make sure your battery is charged up
I sometimes have to turn on cellphone/laptop

Mark, I don't think the ToughBook would get their attention as much as your signature would!

My Toughbook is my right hand man when it comes to travelling. I've NEVER had a problem with security. One time they asked me to take the laptop out of it's case and I explained to them that it isn't a case but the whole laptop its self.
I got through security going to Las Vegas (CF-29), and no problems getting on and off the cruise ship with Royal Caribbean
And yes, be sure that the battery is fully charged so you can work while on those LOOOONG flights lol -
Had Security ask me to take my old cf18 out of the case a few times ... I love the looks on their faces when they see the unit opened up. But never had any trouble taking it anywhere by plane, train or driving across borders

Only thing to worry about is the weight. They're not the lightest of beasts.
-
I've taken my CF-29 all over the US with no problems at any airport...
I did get some funny looks when I was taking a laptop to my son and had my CF-29 as well; security wasn't quite sure why I had 2 laptops with me on the plane... -
-
Unless you have a "death to America" sticker on the lid and an OBL Wallpaper they are not going to bother you. A laptop is a laptop to the TSA i am sure they have seen every conceivable model.
-
I've run into a few TSA types who have commented on the toughbook, but only in appreciation of its quality. I always throw it into the plastic tub which gets the business types eyebrows up.
CAP -
I was just going to comment on that too. When they see me toss my laptop they think I'm out of my mind and they look at me like I have a problem... I toss mine everywhere... Granted... I don't toss it on the concrete.
-
Get a Lind aiplane power adapter and your all powered up! I get more wild looks by raising the antenna. I see jealous written all over thier face.
-
But not all planes have power available now... However that will change...
-
-
OH, You guys sit in the back of the plane? I am always in the upper class section. LOL
-
my father owns an airline I get to fly for free anyways lol
I don't mind getting in a pissing contest with you Toyo... After all you did steal my avatar
-
Well Rob ....My daddy owns a Laundromat so I always have clean clothes lol
Alex -
I've got a Glock, 19, 21,22,27, 52 magazines and 8327 rounds of ammo. I guess that means I'm "fully loaded" all the time. Yes indeed.
-
JB, That was a sarcastic joke...Never been in 1st class, those people are too stuffy for my style.
I guess I need to change my avatar, you wont let that dog lie. I thought I had PM'd you for permission, but I may be mistaken. I'm surely not perfect -
NO problems unless you go to China. My friend works for a major company and they removed his hard drive and did something with it(cloned?). He knows this because he could tell the screws were messed with. I wonder why they would want info off a computer from a major US company? I wonder. They(govt?) also put a listening device in his house when he was staying in Korea. The maid told him about it.
-
I can't even find 9mm ammo on the shelves anymore. I've got a grand total of 165 rounds for my Glock 19. (I need to stock up on .223/5.56 too though, my AR has a shortage of bullets too). -
I have two flat top Armalite AR-15's with desert tan furniture on layaway that are almost paid in full. Still looking for the best deal on 5.56/.223, the best I can find is $379 @ 1000. Next, I have my eye on this Rock Island Armory .45....
-
I'm not sure what people are preparing for around here. Some are afraid of another AWB, which they seem to think means All Weapons Ban or maybe a civil war. I keep hearing that brought up a lot.
I've got some old body armor and am thinking about crafting a protective cover for my CF-29 with it. I know they are tough but I'd like to make it bulletproof as well. -
Man, you gotta move down here to the South. These Rednuecks would start a Cival war if they couldnt get there ammo when needed. Hunting is almost as imporatant as breathing for some. I just picked up 100 rounds of .45, 200 grams, for $23.00 bucks per 20. There are some very reputable dealers online. I can pass them along if you would like.
I think this 100% Hijack! -
I have 100+ high dollar AR15, AK47 and other black guns any given period of time...then again, I own a firearms company
Anyone want a great deal on an AK47 backed by a life time warranty, let me know. -
Travel quite a bit with mine - only had one issue what the TSA lady told me to take it out of the case, only problem was it WAS out of a case, I don't even carry it in a case. Has an OD green and tan paint lob so it does get a lot of looks by the TSA guys and gets swabbed for explosives a little more that my dell used to but no real issues other than the funny looks from the suits when I toss it into a bin.
As far as Black rifles and Ammo - your a little late to be stocking up but if you want it you better get it NOW, It is only going to get worse and with every day our new AG Eric Holder is talking about bringing back a new ASW ban it is going to get very crazy. I made my final order election day night and very glad I did. I also agree with Toyo - you should be able to get ammo unless you are in a Blue state - if not try Ammoman.com or Ammotogo.com - very good sites and have bought a lot from both, just sucks it cost so much it hurts to even shoot a black rifle - but then again that's the plan isn't it !!!!!!!!!
Ready for the Revolution ? -
Didn't mean to hijack the thread. I do travel with my Toughbook and use it to check the ever changing status on ammo and firearm availability. I've been building the arsenal since 1979. I recently had to buy a seperate gun safe to hold the ammo so maybe I'm set. But it never hurts to have spares and trade stuff. Kind of like all the extra toughbook parts you end up with but really don't want to sell.

Speaking of power ports... Does anyone know if they have 12volt outlets on Jetblue? I am taking my Cf-28 across country and want to know if I should bring my 12volt adapter. Thanks again! Can't wait to raise some eyebrows at Dulles International! ^.^
-
I think if/when I obtain a cf18 or cf19 I'll have no problem with weight and would be able to take it as carry-on luggage on planes, but with all the other stuff I need to take (esp. when I'm flying for work and have all my train working gear and if doing a long-distance train spare clothes, and sometimes food to), it's easier to put the computer in checked luggage in a case.
Craig. -
SR,
Unfortunately, Jet Blue does not have power plugs on any of its planes. A CF-28 with a good main and secondary battery used to get me from Boston to Seattle with the GPS on the whole way.
Craig,
I have this huge laptop bag from eBags (not eBay) which holds the CF-30, remote monitor, and every conceivable charger, DVD drive, patch cord, etc. It travels as my "brief case" and some times almost fits under the seat. The 30 if you have never seen one is a bit larger than a 28.
CAP -
Here is a list of airlines with power in the seat. I am not sure how current it is, but it's gotta be of some help to us.

I have an average main battery with about 19% wear on it but running the optical drive may suck up a lot of power and not last 6 hours.... =(
Anyone have any good places to pick up a media bay battery for a Cf-28 600Mhz? -
SR,
The media bay batteries do not work correctly in the MK1 CF-28. There is a CF-28 F.A.Q at the top of this forum!

Well I think I am going to stick with my 600mhz for a bit and this summer if I make enough cash I am going for a cf-29 or a cf-30. So I gotta pull 60hrs a week to get my new toughbook and a nice diesel truck ^.^ -
As far as weight with the 28/29 - I find I like being able to carry it without a case is lighter - and much easier to get through security. I carry a small backpack with all my other electronics and junk and keep the tuffy loose - much quicker to get through TSA and easier to actually use the tuffy when on the plane. Also when you are able to get into a 29 they are a little lighter and the main battery is much stronger. Would never put into my checked bags - get lost and try to get that covered under insurance - no way also might need it to bludgeon a terrorist -

Sitting hear listening to the dryer going now!
But the cost of materials is climbing, much more and I am back to storing the SVO and buying pump fuel.
Never flew with my CF's, hate flying, well not the actual flying the crap getting to and on and off the plane, if its a 10 hour or less drive, I am driving it. Less stress on me.

If I have to pay for SVO, I quit!

And diesel rigs. I have a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 4X4(diesel). It gets 21 mpg if I drive like a old women and 19.4-7 if I drive like I stole it. Diesel fuel in NY state is $2.50. -
Wow! That is the ultimate man setup! -
I try. I didn't have my CF-29 in the picture and I have a new desk.
-
-
Thats BAMF!! I'll post my set up later... Coffey I see you have the same desktop case as me (Antec 900)... Nice AR-15!!

BAM:
I have a .22 (And a dusty computer lol)...does that count?
