So I just picked up a CF-28 (600mhz) and it had XP pro installed on it. I took the hard drive out and tried it in my other CF-28 (1ghz) and it locked up the HD. I took the HD out and installed it back into the original CF-28 and all I get is a cursor? Please help!!

Was the hard drive in long enough in the mk-3 model for windows to start finding new hardware and reconfiguring the windows software to the new hardware

The hardware differences between the mk-1 and mk-3 model is so great that it won’t run properly or might corrupt the whole windows installation

Try going into safe mode at boot up by hitting the F8 key and running it in safe mode and try restoring to an earlier date

so I ended up reinstalling XP. My next question is, is it possible to swap HDs back and forth between 1GHz and 800MHz Cf-28s without the problem that occurred between the 600MHz and 1GHz?

    Thanks again

I recently purchased a 1GHz CF-28 and was able to use my drive from a 800MHz CF-28 with no problems at all.
I did have to update the chipset drivers but everything else worked perfectly after that.

You can go between the MK2(800MHZ) and MK3(1GHZ) but not from the MK1(600MHZ) The MK-1 has too many differences in hardware and will usually result in a BSOD or endless rebooting if you try to swap into the other units. It should not crash the drive as happened to you so maybe you had a defective install to begin with.
