For those that remember, I ended up getting my daughter the pink toughbook she wanted last year. Now my son wants a purple one for his birthday.
When I sent out his lid, I thought while at it I'd make a few more colorfull ones for the kids we work with, and just got the first batch back.
We have blue, pink(ish), green, yellow, to start with. I had the guy tape off the badges, and he sprayed them from colors on hand. He's mainly a cerakote gun refinisher, but also does car parts. Me, I like the green![]()
These should make for some fun........

Wow...that is a very good job...love the blue and purple. I think the kids will love it for sure
-
That green is the same color of my old Samsung phone. I didn't really like it at first, but it grew on me.
-
Sweet!
Who picked the colors? -
really like the blue one!
Good job! -
I was considering black anodize for the top cover and palm rest? I think it would maintain the aluminum texture while giving it a nice finish.
Gold anodized would be nice if you were a Saudi oil prince -

Is it possible to use ordinary spray paint on a CF-27 and CF-M34 ?
-
Sam,
I like the green too. -
That Cerakote looks great, never tried it myself.
+ 1 for the blue
Noddyizin's a mystery to me.
Don't know what Panasonic used for the original lid finish so I'd send it to the strippers before powder coating to stop it reacting & crinkling up in the oven. If that rough finish they have is in the coating then the lid will be smooth after stripping. If it's the surface of the metal that's textured then I might sand that flat before powdering it.
Powder, being attracted to an earthed part by electrostatic charge, tends to build up a greater thickness at edges and corners. Even with careful application by a highly-skilled operatorthe lid might look smoother and shinier in those areas.
At work we have a powder I've thought about trying - EM001 - that's the best imitation of chrome I've yet seen in paint or powder.
Can't decide if it would look cool or like an Indian taxi without the tassels.
Hmmm... tassels...
Good taste's a mystery to me too. -
Palm rests are plastic inlay afaik and wouldn't anodize for sure
But you could powder coat the display outside black? -
Well, after many screws, they're all put togeather, except the cf-29 yellow lid. I had forgotton how many screws and how much you have to take apart to replace a lid on the cf-29, certainly didnt remember the antenna wires would have to unplugged and re-run, so no more 29 will be done. Yellow one is back in the bin for another day. But I realy like how the cf-18s came out, probubly do a few more.
As for colors, my son asked for pruple, I wanted a cool looking blue for the cf-19, but the rest I left up to him, asking only they be light colors, nothing dark, and whatever was on hand, so I wouldnt have to pay to order any special colors. Not sure if these are actually cerakoted, or sprayed. Theyre does seam to be a clear coat on them.
He cerakoted another piece of non-computer hardware for me carbon black at the same time and it came out very nice.
I stayed away form dark colors given the discussions on dark colors absorbing heat.
As for spray pain on a cf-27 or M34, I dont see why not. I would assume the better the prep, the better the result would be. -
Very nice, impressive.

Looks good!
I spray bombed two cf-29's for my kids and they liked it. Looked good and held up for a bit but eventually started to scratch up even with a clear coat. I also did a hunter camo hydro print for my nephew and it is more durable then paint alone. Looked good but its hard to keep the bubbles out when doing it. -
where did you get these done at? what did they cost you to have done?
