    Hello

As it seems like this is newbie week, here's my twopennorth...
My 28 has worked okay so far but has just developed a fault in its touchpad; it has stopped responding properly to finger movements, so that when I say make a diagonal stroke down to the lower left corner, the pointer flies up to the upper right corner, which is where it seems to like to spend most of its time whatever strokes I do.
It's possible to coaxe it to where I want it to go with a great deal of effort, but it's nearly unusable. What I wanted to know was whether this is more likely to be a hardware or software fault (this is my first laptop so I don't know how reliable touchpads are).
Any advice gratefully received, and thanks for an entertaining site as well...

As an extra question, my CF-28 is model no CF-28PBJ12FE, but I can't find out what the "1" between the J and 2 means, so if anyone can point me to a site that lists this info, I'd be very gratefull. I live in the UK if you hadn't guessed...

    Cheers...

Try cleaning the touchpad. Pay attention the the outer edges where the touchpad and the palmrest meet. Use something thin like a business card, smashed flat end of a wooden toothpick or something similar to clean out that area. I have had great success using the plastic from blister packs cut down to a manageable size. I cut one end down to a pointy shape to get into the corners and stuff. The blister packs I refer to are the plastic shells that alot of items come in usually clear and heat sealed around the edges.

Thanks for the quick reply, Rusty, I'll give it a try tonight and report back. It just seems odd that cruft around the edge of the pad can affect how it works in the middle.

If you do a search of the forum you will find this has happen to many members. Not sure if that is your problem but its a place to start. On my CF-29 this was the problem.

Yep, that did the trick, so thanks again Rusty - I used a piece of stiff card to poke under the edge - didn't realise just much how the touchpad extends under its surround. Isn't that weak point; shouldn't that area be sealed so that say sand can't get in there?

It is sealed, we don't poke it too hard around the edges...just a little to get the crap out.

That's a single piece of I would guess die cut double side adhesive in there...about 3/8 wide and four times as thick as scotch tape that surrounds the pad and buttons. The clearance is necessary to keep adhesive from grabbing the sand. :) Cookie crumbs are another issue. The crumby things get under a key now and then. (word play intentional)
