or ... how to make a silicon to carbon converter ... nuclear transmutation physics at its finest .

so , shawn sent me a package with some *stuff* in it . there are a couple of '52 LED screens and a driver board in the mix .
after a short confab with shawn , i set into figuring out how to hook up that driver/screen combo into my '52 MK1 .
for those unfamiliar with the '52 series , the MK1 uses CCFL while the MK2 and MK3 use LED backlighting .
let me assure you , the original CCFL brightness was/is akin to the headlight on an ant's motorcycle , and hence the idea of being able to swap these screens/drivers around is a pretty hot ticket , akin to when they started putting "beanie-weenies" in C-rations .
i took a quick look at the driver board ... hmmm ... it uses a 6 channel led driver/controller IC (just guessing) .
i got on the information superhighway and took many off-ramps to nowheresville .
so far , i came up with what i believe is the correct IC manufactured by ROHM but with a different number .
as some of you in here are aware of , reverse engineering a board can be a royal PITA .

in my travels , i came across many references to "driver boards" .
here is one that i checked out , hoping to glean a small amount of information :
    http://www.instructables.com/id/Tur...-portable-light-/step6/Inverter-board-pinout/
i have visited the "indestructible" site many times but this is the first time that i have bothered to peruse the readers comments ...
when i first glanced at the "project" i though that there may be trouble in the offing ... and sure enough , there is/was .
some projects (and for some of us , our ex-wife) should come with a warning such as : "not for the technically challenged or uninitiated" .
i have been at this engineering thing for about 40 years and there are still situations that give me pause to stop and back away slowly .
be that as it is , there are those that "rush in where angels fear to tread" ... and sure enough , the replies to that article demonstrate justification of "the darwin awards" .
things like ; "i have a screen and inverter , it is from a yakkaweewee 1301 , can you tell me what wires do what" , show that the person has already gone way beyond their prowess .

back to my original tack ...
i am not quite ready to power up the board/display combo and perform some wire-swappin' sleight of hand .
when i do reach that point , and if by some means i manage to get the new parts to work on a MK1 , i will post the information here .

Not worth the effort. Just go to Hobby Lobby and buy a 10" x 12" light box.....
The future ex-wife will think you are a genius.

Now I will get back to my problems, (my imaginary friend thinks I have mental problems).

    heh heh heh ...

hmmm ... it is getting to the point where all the gals i know i see as "future exes" ... makes my blood run cold and my feet take me away quickly .
if i had a MK2/3 i could put a 'scope on the pins and figure it out .

Make it a mk3 with WXGA resolution for the LED backlight.

Try sending member Onirakkiss a private message. Just found out that he can help you with the CF 52 Larry.
